League won't load

My league which was working fine for a long time will no longer load as of yesterday. OOTP says it is corrupt upon trying to load the league files. I uploaded my league to the OOTP FTP as instructed on this forum. If anyone could try and look into this for me and possibly save the league I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Did anything out of the ordinary happen the last time you were playing the league? Error messages or a crash/power failure (especially while saving the game)? And are you playing on a PC or Mac?

Nope, it closed normal with no reason for concern. PC with Vista. Thanks.

What did you name it?

He named it appropriately: larrysw.zip. You can download it from here, if you like - but I've already tried. I can only inspect it superficially (lacking any way to dig into the contents of .dat files), but he seems to have all the needed .dat files, none of them are .bak files instead, all are roughly appropriate sizes, and the league won't load for me either. Crashes (standard Windows "OOTP has encountered an error and needs to close") every time at the "Loading Leagues" stage.

From reading old similar threads, I assume it is the world.dat file that is the problem. If it is that, is there a way to fix it?

Yeah, that's my guess as well. Unfortunately, the .dat files aren't something I'm able to view/edit, so we're probably going to have to wait for a word from the higher-ups about what the problem is in there and whether it's fixable.

I've taken a look at your world.dat file, Larry, and even without knowing much about the structure of the file, I can tell that it's corrupted. It cuts off the data about halfway through and fills in the rest with empty bytes. And since this file keeps track of league data as your league progresses, it's not as easy as replacing it with a world.dat file from another league, I'm afraid. Unless you've got a league backup or can revert to a System Restore point, you may be out of luck.

Hopefully one of the higher-ups can prove me wrong...

Any progress on this one, larrysw? You could try opening it after installing the latest patch, though I doubt that that would do it.

Larry,

I've tried to load it up with my code and there is absolutely nothing of your league left in the world.dat file by the looks of it.

It's got the nation structure ok up to Scotland and then a couple of cities after Stenhousemuir it goes to this constant 0 for every byte.

So, it's not even got to the league structure.

As this thread has gone more than two weeks without a reply, it will now be closed for housekeeping reasons so that Tech Support volunteers can more promptly find and address active issues. If you need any further assistance with this issue, all you have to do is post a link to this thread in Tech Support and we can pick up right where we left off. Thanks.
