Can't load league in OOTP 8

I've just updated to OOTP 8 and copied my league folder from the '07 version to the new OOTP 8 saved_games directory. When I get to the Load Game dialogue I can see my league listed. OOTP 8 begins to load my league's .dat files but freezes 25% of the way in at the "Loading Teams" mark. I have to shut down the game in the Task Manager to be able to exit. Starting a new game works just fine, but loading my '07 league crashes the program every time.

Bear in mind I'm having issues with my .dat files in the '07 version, so possibly this is related. Any idea how I can resolve this issue and begin using OOTP 8 with my online league?

Same here -- at the 25% mark.

Would either of you two be able to .zip up your league's .dat files and post them on a webserver somewhere that I could download?

I'm not having any problems opening OOTP2007 leagues here, so I'm wondering if the issue is specific to your leagues (in which case I won't be able to open them, either) or your systems (in which case I should be able to open them).

I deleted all of my almanac folders before trying to open the league file. Could that be the cause of my problem? Also, my league file size is over 500MB.

Corsairs .dat files for PEBA.lg

I suspect the problem is specific to our leagues, but I'll be interested to see what happens on your end.

The league loads for me. It stalled for about five seconds longer than I expected on the Teams section, but other than that didn't seem to have any problems.

I haven't installed the .10 patch yet, though... I'll grab that and see if it introduces any problems.

I'm having this same problem. I copied my OOTP 2007 files over to OOTP8 and it freezes up at the 25% progress mark, right when it's supposed to be loading teams.

OK, I can confirm that the patch is the source of the problem here. I can load your league multiple teams with no problem using 8.0.0.7 (the original release of OOTP8), but I freeze at 25% every time I try to load the league using 8.0.0.10 (the patch).

If you kept your original OOTP8 .exe as a backup, revert back to that and you'll probably be OK.

For the time being, I'll bring this to the attention of the powers that be...

OK guys, here is the deal: OOTP 8 does automatically create team logos for leagues where teams have no logo stored. For some reason, the teams.dat file Corsairs posted has almost 4000 teams in it, so this takes a while...

Give it some time, it will load, and this only happens the first time you load the league!

4000 teams - that sounds like the CubbyFan set to me. I did once try to pare that down to a manageable number and after working out that teams had to be ID'd from 1 upwards without gaps and in that order in the file it still didn't work.

Maybe a purge database option in 2009 would be useful especially if you change the league structure at game creation - every change to number of sub-leagues, divisions or teams causes all the teams that had been created in that league to become 'invisible' in the database before the new lot are created.

That's interesting. I don't have nearly that number of teams in my league's universe, but at one point I did experiment with CubbyFan's set... maybe those teams are still in my database?

Is there a way for me to pare those teams out of the .dat file? I'm wondering if this would also help solve the faces.dat crash problem I've been having.

So the game you're having trouble loading isn't one based on Cubby's set? New games won't remember anything from any previous games, but if you've made changes to Cubby's and carried on from there it would keep what was hidden.

I've not managed to get rid of inactive teams yet. I thought I had solved the problem of doing it, but it didn't like it - probably one file or something I hadn't changed the links in.

Would I be correct in assuming that this would be a one-time only delay then?

First, I'll confirm that OOTP 8 will eventually load my league file after a lengthy wait and that it loads more quickly during future attempts (although still noticeably slower than OOTP 2007). Thanks for the tip, Markus!

No, our game isn't based on Cubby's set. It's a fictional league with 208 teams total in the "universe". However, during the setup process I did play around with Cubby's set to get some ideas for different game settings. When I was finished testing I removed his teams from my world template... or so I thought. It's beginning to look like they're still stored in there.

How are you guys viewing the teams in your database? Looking at a dump of my teams.csv file I see just the 208 teams I know are in my league. I do notice that the human teams are listed with team ID #'s 77-100 and that the AI teams all have ID #'s in the 3000's. I don't see any additional teams, though.

Sounds like they are still stored in there. What happens when a league is deleted the teams that were in it get marked up as inactive but stays in teams.dat.

I've decoded most of the .dat files in the game so that's how I get to see what is in the files and it means you can see things that are no longer there.

Is there a way for me to do this on my end? I suppose it's somewhat moot since no one knows how to remove the extra teams from the file, but it'd be nice to see what's in there nonetheless.
