Owner Does NOT Approve the Deal
In my game, I have a team in a Rather Big market, with Extremely Loyal fans, and I'm set to Win Now. In addition, the game says I have $9 for signing players and I'm currently sitting on about $7 million on the Finances screen. However, when I attempt to sign a free agent the "Owner does NOT approve the deal" message appears (regardless of what I do). I can't even offer a major league minimum offer...
Any ideas why? |

$9 isn't a lot of cap room, I'm guessing that your league min is higher than that, if this is the Offseason, there is a known issue where cash is not included into what you are allowed to spend.

$9 million is about 25% of my entire budget. It is the offseason, what is the bug about Cash not being available to spend and how do I fix it? |

Do you have outstanding offers made to other FAs? If so, those count against your budget until the players reject them.

Is it set for owner controls budget? Probably.
Then it doesn't matter how much cash you have, it's all about budget. Then we need to know what your budget is, how much you have in contracts already, how much projected budget room you have, if there are any coach or player expenses yet (if you released someone maybe). It's probably past arbitration already? Then new estimated arbitration contracts couldn't be a problem then. If it's set to all money available then cash matters. Might be what Nutlaw said, and I then have no idea. I play with budgets so never encountered it. 9 million is large, but not out of the realm of possibility. There are occurences where a larger amount was giving the same results. For some reason, somewhere, somehow, the game is counting something against you it shouldn't and you get screwed like this. Your problem here may fall into that category, but wouldn't be sure until I had all the numbers... or you can assume it does and cuss, rant and rave, and then accept it (that's what I usually end up doing). ![]() Hopefully this bug will die in the next version finally.

The money the owner allows for FA signings is a bit of a mystery, but I do know that it is directly affected by both budget and cash - if you increase either by X dollars, you will have X dollars more for FA signings. If you're in negative territory now for FA money, you may have to increase one by several million before you start seeing results.
Your options as far as I know are: 1) Go into commissioner mode - you now have control of the team and the owner will approve all signings, although if you go overboard there will of course be financial repercussions at the end of the year. 2) Go into commissioner mode and in the financials screen click on 'edit financials' and raise the budget, then exit commissioner mode and try FA signing again. This may need to be repeated. 3) Raise your cash level by trading players or draft picks (if draft pick trading is enabled) for cash. Hope that is helpful, I've had the same problem. If anyone knows the actual formula used to determine FA money available please post it! |

thanks guys, I've gone in and signed free agents in commish mode (I'm still under my budget by about $1 million). It's a bit annoying, but playable. |
