Game Keep Crashing in our Online League at June 20 Date
1. What, specifically, were you doing when the problem occurred? Include the specific screen you were on when the problem occurred.
- Our commissioner was trying to run a sim for our league. We are at the June 20th date, he simulated the day, and the game crashed. Our co-commissioner and myself have both tried on our PCs with our league files to see if it was a computer issue on his end, but we are having the same problem. Our draft was on June 15, and he used Getch's draft utility to do the picks. It released players off of most teams, so our commissioner went in by hand and added each player back to the team in which drafted them. He also did a 'generate schedule' for our Short Season and Rookie Leagues. (We are using CubbyFan's roster set to my knowledge) which is where I thought the problem had lied. 2. What happened? Was there an error message? If so, what was the specific message? - The game just crashed, there was no error message. 3. Were you able to repeat the error with this same game? With another game? If so, what steps did you take? - Yes, I tried deleting the leagues in question (Short Season and Rookie), I tried clearing the schedules for those leagues since their seasons had not started, I tried re-importing the schedules, I tried clearing the schedules and changing the dates and re-generating the schedule, I tried everything I could think of regarding the issues with what I thought was the short season and rookie leagues. But I am stumped as to what it could be after trying of all that. 4. If relevant, what do you think the program should have done? - Well after deleting the leagues in question, among other things, it should have just simmed as normal, instead of crashing after the day's simulation is complete. 5. What is your league configuration (fictional/historical, etc.) - Using CubbyFan's MLB/Minors Roster Set. 6. Are you a Mac or PC user? - PC with Windows Vista (I assume the other 2 people who tried to sim the games are using PC as well) Like I said, I tried everything from clearing schedules to deleting the leagues I felt were in question since he had just generated schedules for them on that particular day in the game. The only thing I didn't try and didn't know 'how' to try would be with the draft date being June 15 and if using the utility, having the players released, and then having our commish re-assign them manually himself would have caused issues. Any help and/or ideas would be greatly appreciated as we would love to not have the league held up if possible not to mention going to a back-up date for the integrity of the league.

As the co-commish who attempted to sim once it originally failed for the commish, I'd have to say that sums it up perfectly (the above information). All of the day's games simmed as did all of the minor leauge games it seems. For some reason though, that last step or two before it progresses to the next day is the "hiccup" that causes the generic OOTP "we're sorry but we're going to have to shut the game down" error to appear.
Previously in my 6.5 league I've had to double-check lineups to make sure players weren't in duplicate spots. Usually that was the problem and we could move forward but it's definitely not here. In addtion to the various work listed with the minor leagues, I checked the ML teams one by one to ensure viable, accurate lineups for each. Jason |

Is June 20th the first day of your new sim, or is it somewhere in the middle? |

After this happened, he added back the players by clicking on the player, and assigning them to the team in which they belong. Then re-uploaded the file complete with any trades that had taken place during the time between the original upload of the sim and the time it took him to manually put the players back. After doing this, someone else realized that schedules were never generated for Short Season (A) and Rookie Leagues. He then generated fictional schedules and again re-uploaded the file. I had exported two different times within that span, and he never took anyone's export. He then tried running the sim taking exports, and running the sim without taking exports (which what I tried to do on my end as well). It sims through all the games the first day, and then as it is getting ready to appear to move to the next day, the game crashes. Like I mentioned, I've tried deleting the Short Season (A) and Rookie Leagues, and then running the sim, and that doesn't help, I've tried clearing the schedules, that doesn't help either. I ran out of ideas, thus I came to you all to see if you had any other ideas! Any help would be greatly appreciated sir.

Is this your first season of play?
Could you try deleting all of the minor leagues in a copy of the league to see if it will sim forward then? If you have foreign leagues, try deleting those too. |

I have tried deleting all of the minor leagues to see if that will sim it forward past the June 20th date. It still gives the same problem where the game crashes after simming the June 20th date. I am completely out of ideas at this point. I am curious if the file has corrupted somewhere??? I was told the commish has a backup file from right after the draft (in which the date in the game was June 15). So when he gets on this evening I'm going to see out of curiosity if it will sim past June 20 with that backed up file or not. But if you do have any other ideas, please, feel free to let us know and I'll be more than happy to try them.

Yeah, that's a good next step. Do you guys have any backups from before the draft? I'd particularly like to see the results of that being simmed ahead.

It's still unclear what caused it to crash in the first place though.....

Probably related to team file imports and the players being released and then placed back on the teams. That was a bad sign.
Since you are moving forward, I'll close this thread out. If you have further trouble, however, please don't hesitate to post here and we'll do our best to help you. |
