Odd number of games in scheduler

I just tried for the first time to start a historical league (1962). After much inputting of data and some hours of work, I tried to 'start game' and was informed that there had been an error, and the scheduler could not handle an odd number of games. Since when is 162 an odd number?

The screen then locked up. When I tried to quit, the screen went black and stayed that way, which has never happened to me before. (I have a Mac.) I was able to force-quit my way out of it and now I'm here.

Do you have any advice on how I can convince the program that 162 is an even number, or am I better off just not playing historical?

Try again, and please record the exact steps you're taking throughout the process. The game has a plethora of options and settings, and sometimes it gets picky over what combination are selected. There's not been an issue testing in regards to starting historical leagues in any particular area that I can recall being mentioned.

As I said, setting up the whole damn league takes some hours, and I'd really prefer not to go through that again with no prospect of it working any better. And there would be a hundred or more steps involved. The only steps that should affect the scheduler (as far as I can guess), are:

I enabled wild cards in the playoffs, thus changing the playoffs to two rounds.

I changed the number of games in each playoff round to best-of-nine.

I enabled interleague play. I saw no button for 'unbalanced schedule'.

I checked 'use matching schedule if found', not expecting one to be found.

At this point I will point out that the 2006 version of the scheduler was able to create a schedule using the same parameters.

That might be it. There was no interleague play in 1962, and if you've started the league as a historical league, then it may be looking for something which doesn't exist.

I'd suggest trying againt to create your league but stick to the historical schedule requirements — that means leaving interleague play off, at least when initially setting up the league. Then make a copy of your league at that point so you don't lose the work you've done. You can then try changing various settings to see if the problem occurs again.

As for a 162-game interleague schedule for two 10-team single division subleagues, I don't think the game includes such a schedule. You may wish to try checking the Mods forum, there are plenty of hand-created custom schedule files there for OOTP 2007/8.

Thanks, Rusty. Based on the response (or lack thereof) I received to my 'how to' query in the Historical section of the forum, I guess I'll just stick this league on the back burner and continue with my Oriental League, which seems to be going smoothly.

You wouldn't know whether the spring training schedule for the Nippon League is real life or notional, would you? The one for 2006 is certainly one of the worst schedules I could imagine.

I guess you can mark this one 'resolved'.
