Game crashes/freezes during load

I had gotten through two seasons and half an offseason of my newest league when it all of a sudden crashed going from November-December 2009.

I get this error message:

DATABASE: load_database could not load messages file.

The screen then freezes.

Can someone help me out with this? Thanks!

Occasionally, the screen does not freeze, and I also get this error message:

Could not load game! The data bas is corrupt.

do you have a mac? I have the newest mac book pro and experienced a similar problem.

When I try to load/continue my season, I get the following "error" message:

DATABASE::load_database - could not load world file.

I then click "ok" and a box appears that says:

the loading of the database failed. It is either corrupt or a save-game from an old version.

I cannot advance beyond this point.

Nope...I have a PC and I'm receiving the exact same error messages.

I tried uninstalling and then installing again, to no avail.

This might fix your problem, but it will delete all messages and news from your league in the process:

-Extract the two batch files from the zip
-copy/paste the messages file (the other batch file is useless for this) to your league (XXX.lg) folder
-click the file it should load then close almost immediately, though it will delete all messages and news for the league

This should probably be a last ditch effort, it was given to me by another member to do the purpose I bolded above. It may work in this circumstance or it could completely kill the league, I have no way of knowing.

Hopefully someone else has an idea.

yeah, i'm on PC too, and i get the same error message, but after first season. game crashed after initial season (2008 MLB rosters) after postseason. no error message initially. then i started a new league, same roster set, and game crashed after postseason and this time i got the mail file is corrupt message. thanks.

Yes I have this same problem, now with a second league. My very first league this occured after about 30 games, now my second league started from fresh this has occured on June 2. There were tons of trades on that day so perhaps this has caused the nuke. I am very glad I performed a backup only 2 days back on my league. I backup almost weekly now because of this very bug as it will destroy your league. When I get back home from work I will zip up the dat files and upload, but the messages.dat file will be size 0. I could also send these after I restore my backup if the mods wish as the messages.dat file should not be 0 with the working copy.

For me this has happened with the default league then I installed the mod that the game allows you to DL and it happened again. This was unpatched so when I get home I will patch and see if this happens again. It seems to happen at random saves since I got the error at different points in the season, will try to see if it happens again at the same point with my current league.

Ok I am currently uploading my post crash files and the ones from my backup. After I restored my league from backup the error occured on the very first save, which was 1 day prior to the crash on my initial file. These are pre-patch files, I am currently downloading the update. I can upload again after the patch but I doubt this makes any difference to the files in question. I will post again after my update is finished to see if the problem persists.

The first file should finish uploading in about 15 minutes and is under my username. The one from my backup (has the full messages file size) will be about 20 - 30 minutes from now. Let me know if you need anything else.

Ok patch applied and it still crashes upon reload. I am now going to try the drastic delete messages and see what happens. Will report shortly.

I tried this and it still crashes the program upon a save at 73% when it is saving the messages.

I just remembered something random and probably unrelated from testing, but I'll throw it out there. Go to your league's news folder and uncheck read-only in the properties. If that doesn't work try to do the same thing with the league folder itself. Might be worth a try, if the leagues stuck as it is I suppose you have nothing to lose.

Unfortunately this did not fix the bug. I tried both methods and it still crashes at 73% when it gets to the messages to save.

Any other potential solutions or is my league toast? I am very surprised that my backup from a good point cannot continue. This makes me think that somehow the league gets corrupted upon creation and there will be a problem at some point no matter what you do. Have you been able to recreate the problem from my 2nd zip file I uploaded yesterday?

Yes, I have MBP 2.33 GHz w/Leopard, and I have experienced the similar thing.
