MAC : Is this game completely unplayable off-line?
Question pertains to the Mac version.
Last night a storm knocked out internet access here for about 4 hours. No problem, I thought, I'll play OOTP until it comes back on. Wrong. When I tried to open the game I got a white 1024x768 window where the game would normally go, and it just sits there like that until I go into the CMD-OPT-ESC menu and force quit. Tried it twice last night, both cases I had to Force Quit. This morning, the internet is back up and running, and the game works again. Is it really the case that OOTP is no longer playable off-line? Is there some workaround required for those cases when the internet is down? |

Hi, I've added MAC to your thread title so that the Mac experts on here can see that this is a Mac-only issue. Hopefully one of them will be in shortly.

Good question. I forgot that I was going to check when it is playable since nobody ever (that I saw) came out with it.
I turned off my Wireless connection where I lost instant messaging and also no internet page would load. OOTP worked. I'll troubleshoot some of the other possibilities. |

Jasonditz, can you try disconnecting from the internet and loading up OOTP once more?

When I manually disconnect (by going into Network and shutting off the ethernet connection), it appears to be working fine. Perhaps whatever was affecting me last night was related to the fact that the ethernet connection was still active, still connected to the router, but the internet connection itself was down?
For instance, if I opened Safari last night while the connection was down, it would just sit there and wait for a timeout... but when I opened Safari after disconnecting manually, it instantly says "Not connected to the Internet". I mean, I have no clue how OOTP is configured to work, but is it possibly seeing an active internet connection on startup, trying to connect to the internet for some reason (maybe to check a license, maybe to see if there's an updated version) and then just never timing out when the connection isn't actually going anywhere? |

Not sure. It could have also been an entirely unrelated problem.
Since you can play the game both when connected and disconnected from the internet and can't reproduce your original issue, I'll close this one out for now. If the issue returns, please post a new thread with a link to this one and we'll try to get to the bottom of it. Thanks. |
