Reimport Injury database link broken?

Edited injury db so that there were not any season ending or CEI injuries on my imported V8 league. Reimported injury DB andgGot two CEI's afterwards.

Started new league and got a season ending injury the first week.

Is there anyway to see where the league is pointing when importing the injury db? Is there anyway to have others test this?

Could you attach your injuries.txt file to your next post?

I'm going to move this over to Technical Support in the mean time.

Just to make sure I have the procedure correct and this is not a user error issue. There is only one injury.txt file that exists on the OOTP folder under database and there is not a league specific injury file that exists in under the saved_games folder? Is this correct? So, when I reimport I am importing the injury.txt that is under Database?

Injury file attached.

I'm not a great expert on injuries, but from what I can remember you don't need to re-import injuries as the game reloads injury.txt each time you start up (don't quote me on that though).

I'll ping injury_log and see if he's around as he's good at this sort of stuff.

Is it possible then that the game is reloading my edited injury file and then when I reimport it it importing a default file that contains the CEI's? I thought the file under the Database folder was the default but maybe there is a uneditable default injury file that I am unaware of.

Well, I'm not sure if the 'reimport injury database' button was fixed, but there was a bug with the button in OOTP-2007. This may have changed, but in v2007, when you 'reimported', the game looked at the injuries.txt file in your data folder and added any injuries with new diagnosis fields to whatever was stored in memory when you loaded your league. The game did not, however, erase whatever injuries were there when you loaded up your league. Based on the above, I'm guessing there's still a bug there. I can't test this at the moment.

Luckily, reimporting is really easy to do; you don't need to use that button at all. The point is, there is no injury 'database'. injuries.txt is the database. When you load a league, the contents of injuries.txt are loaded into memory. If you want to use a new injuries file, edit injuries.txt, save it, then reload a league (no need to quit OOTP). This should successfully update the injuries 'database'.

One thing to note: if a player is injured, when you go to his profile, you'll see his Diagnosis in the lower left ('Fractured Ankle' or whatever). The game doesn't remember the wording of the diagnosis; it remembers which line number from injuries.txt contains the diagnosis. If you change the name of 'Fractured Ankle' to 'Alien Abduction', then reload the league, you'll see his diagnosis change in his Profile (but not in the injury log or in the news story reporting the injury). You'll also see diagnoses change if you reorder the lines in injuries.txt. So my advice would be to add new entries at the end of the file if you want to preserve diagnoses for existing injuries.

Lastly, I'd recommend saving a copy of injuries.txt before editing it.

So, then a good way to test this would be to give a player an injury, note the line in the .txt file of the injury, change the injury in the line of the injury.txt, reload my league, and the injury should change to whatever I edited too.

This would verify my edited injury.txt folder is being used?

Ok, tested it and it worked

Bowie Alabastor a 21 year old FA went from a 15 day Bruised Cheekbone to a 15 day Alien Abduction.

OK, can you now test the SEI and CEI problem without using the 're-import' button and see if that works. If it works just by altering injuries.txt and not re-importing it's a bug with the re-import button. I suppose the re-import button should only be needed mid-game when you don't want to save/exit/reload.

I didn't use the re-import button. I applied the cheekbone injury, opened the injury.txt file and made the Alien Abduction change and saved and closed the file, then reloaded the game and the cheekbone injury changed to Alien Abduction.

So, the issue appears to be possibly a save issue on my end. I made the edits to the file but apparently did not save. I thought I did, I am almost sure I did as I saved the default also under a different name. But I cannot reproduce now and matter of fact I have demonstrated that my league is looking at the edited file.

OK, just to be sure before I close this, you're happy with how injuries are automatically re-imported on loading the game, and you believe that your SEI and CEI's are no longer occurring because you've edited them out?

Yes, I believe it can be closed. I believe the issue was on my end.

Thanks to you and Injury_log for the quick help.
