Altering Expansion History

Has anyone had any experience or have any knowledge of what file(s) you need to edit to alter the expansion history? For example, I would like to have the Dodgers stay in Brooklyn and have LA be an expansion franchise.

Also I would like to stagger the expansion of 1969 so that only two teams come into the league then and the other two in either 1970 or 1971.

You would have to turn off auto expansion and do it manually in order to achieve this.

If I do this manually, don't I also then have to manually deal with market size, fan loayalty, and everything else that comes with a team/city.

There must be a file or files somewhere that can be edited to change the name of the city, or the year of the expansion. These seem to me to be fairly minor changes/edits.

I have editited the ballparks and financial files from time to time.

Ditto this for here.

I want to change two teams, that will run the course of history, starting in 1871.

I've added them to every .csv file I can find that references 1871+, but cannot get them to be imported.

Also every year, any players supposed to go to this team end up in free agency.

I believe the game either uses the included odb database pre-1901 or the teams are hard coded pre-1901.

Changing the teams.CSV file does nothing pre-1901.

Either way you can't change it.

OK, so pre-1901 can not be edited. How about after that? Say 1958 when the move west began and then in 1961 when the real expansions started?

I haven't tested this in OOTP 9 but I did it all the time in 6 thru 8.

So you should be golden.

Couldnt you just change the team id in the teams csv file for the year you want?
As long as the computer has a team id and a year i dont think it really cares whether its Brooklyn or LA.

dont forget to change the players batting, fielding, pitching csvs to the new team if you want them automatically imported to the new team. Otherwise the game might not import the player because the player is listed for LA instead of Brooklyn

Ok - here's what I've done:

Edited all teams.csv to add in a new team from 1871 to 2008.
Edited some players so they play for that their stats were from that team. (batting.csv, pitching.csv, fielding.csv, etc, etc - every file in the directory).
I can't get .odb to work for me, not sure why - but noticed (from hex editing it) that there were references to the team I removed.

I'm guessing the game starts from .odb, then uses .csv after that? Or some parts of the .odb are altered when .csv changes or something.

I don't know where I'm going wrong, but I am somewhere - all the players on my team disappear after the first year - I can see them, they're still taking a salary, but they aren't on my pitching/lineup/transaction screens.

I believe this notion is correct. You cannot change things via csv until 1901 and the changes are made to the CSV's only not the odb.

I could be wrong but I think you can download the Lahman database for free from their site and then use the master.csv file instead of having to use the odb file from the sim. There is a place that allows you to use a master.csv file rather than a odb file. I am fairly sure you can then edit that file. What changes that may make to the sim, I am not sure. Maybe some one else can answer that. I am fairly new here but seems as though one could do that ok.

Anyway, good luck with it. I like the idea you have though. I would like to have kept Brooklyn in Brooklyn. I would have liked to see the Braves stay in Milwaukee too, or Boston....just me I guess.

This kind of answers my question I guess -- I had an idea to start the game in 1954 and have the expansion automatically done, except I want to keep the A's in Philadelphia.

Should I edit the Team ID, etc. within the game (League setup) or do I have to edit a .csv file outside of the game as mentioned above?
