What's included in Online League file download?
When an owner clicks "Load Online League file," exactly which files does that update on his computer?

It is the master folder for your league, including all .dat files, news stories, images, etc.
You only need to do this once from the web site. In all future updates of the league file, a GM only needs to go to the manager home page and select the link to update league file in OOTP 09.

My question is, when the GM "go[es] to the manager home page and select[s] the link to update league file in OOTP 09," which files on his home machine then get updated? Apparently, it's not "all .dat files, news stories, images, etc." but only some of them? Which files actually do get updated? |

Unless I'm mistaken, it's the same file with updates for the latest round of news, images you might have added, etc.

Thanks Rasnell.
Does the game check to see which available files are newer than the files the owner already has on his machine? And then download the newer ones from the server? It seemed like, in my v8 online leagues, not everything would get updated when I clicked to update my online league files. For example, player photos didn't always seem to update to the latest version. This might have been due to certain settings, either on the league's part, or on mine. |

I can't speak to the 9 improvements. but in 8 the answer is what the commish exports. Images are a good example. They are large, causing big upload and down loads, don't change very often. In my historical league, I actually have a separate zip file for photos on the web site. They are never pushed as part of the file updates.
Box scores are another area. You can determine how far back you are going to export box scores. So again a trade off can be made. Do you export all box scores (even if you are playing in August), or only the box scores for the last sim. If someone skips an update, then they may be missing some of the data (although the HTML pages are still on the site. It is all a trade off of the size of the file you want uploaded/downloaded by managers (and the time it takes to do that) vs having data available for long periods of time. |

By the way, I just turned off photos just to see what a difference that makes. League file is 10 times smaller, much faster upload speeds. It appears that it keeps transmitting the entire photo file rather than any changes.

Thanks for that info.
I'm going to experiment with this, I was asking questions before giving it a try. I suppose I can learn a lot by going through with the process, I thought maybe someone had itemized exactly what happens when this is executed. |

Well, thanks to you, Satch, I tried turning photos off and the league file is now 3 meg instead of 30 meg and that really makes a difference with all these league updates every other day.
So I'm still learning myself.

The only files that get sent every time are the .DAT files, and you can optionally turn off sending names and retired players dats.

As soon as I clicked that off, I have a 3 meg file. How large are your typical league files? Do you still have my FTP from earlier where you can look at the previous setting?

I'll doublecheck OOTP9 to make sure it's not sending all the photos every time.

3 mb is probably right then because my league is 1929, 16 teams, no minors, inaugural draft (no history) and a reserve roster.

Tested by creating a tiny league with just 4 teams, 3 levels of minors.
Generated player photos for all Major League players. Generated League File, and it created a zip with 513 files in it, including all the player photos. Simmed ahead 7 days...no new player photos created... It still included all the images. ![]() BZ1804

Ah poop, I had really been hoping that bug had been squashed. Looks like we'll be sticking with the stand-alone picture updates being downloaded through the website. It's not the biggest issue I suppose, but I'll certainly be looking forward to being able to check the "Include new and changed images" button when I send out new league files.

What's weird is that my OOTP8 files don't include all images. So, it was working at some point.

Solonor: I've also posted on the beta forum. Do a test with the new images off. Create and archive the league file and then extract to look inside. It removes everything related to news/html and not just the images folder.
Please tell me that all that other html stuff is already included in the .dat files so my GMs will still see box scores, game logs and all the other stuff shown in the news/html folder. I'm still in my league's inaugural draft so I can't verify about the box scores and game logs but those folders are definitely removed from news/html when you click off the images setting for creating league files in the commissioner settings.
