OOTP Crashing after Patch Update

Hi, I'm having issues with OOTP version 9.1.6 crashing after I've played about 50 games. To make diagnosing the problem easier (hopefully) I have copied the forum administrator's 6 questions for reporting a problem with my relevant information below.

1. What, specifically, were you doing when the problem occurred? Include the specific screen you were on when the problem occurred.

I was starting up OOTP baseball. I had version 9.0.16 and was playing a historical league. I was about 40 or 50 games into the season and had not previously had any problems.

2. What happened? Was there an error message? If so, what was the specific message?

Upon starting up OOTP (using the "Continue Game" option) the game halted during the loading process and gave me the message: ERROR: Could not load names database.

3. Were you able to repeat the error with this same game? With another game? If so, what steps did you take?

Yes, I was able to repeat the error. So I installed the most recent patch (Version 9.1.6) over my existing version. Now, when I load OOTP the program halts during the "Finalizing" step of loading the database.

After a few minutes I am able to enter my league. However, when I go to the schedule all of the starting pitchers listed for the day have a record of 0-0 with an ERA of 0.00. And the starting pitcher for my team (the Cubs) was not previously on my team. If I click on the "Manage" button to play my team's game I get a message stating "OOTP Baseball 9 Has Stopped Working".

4. If relevant, what do you think the program should have done?

Not relevant

5. What is your league configuration (fictional/historical, etc.)

Historical league

6. Are you a Mac or PC user?

PC user running Windows Vista

Sorry for the delay in replying to this question.

Is it possible to find out the size of the file called names.dat in your saved game directory for this league?

Is the error always referring to names.dat?

File Size

The file size for names.dat is 2770 kb.

Like I said, it's weird because I was able to play 40 or so games without any trouble.

Would you be able to zip up the .dat files from your league and FTP them up to us as per the instructions in the How To FTP Files to Us thread?

Sorry for the tardiness of reply to this. I have looked at your file and am having the same problems as you.

There's a corruption somewhere but for some reason it's not stopping the game loading.

I'll ping Markus and see if he can spot something obvious.

One more thing

Thanks for the reply!

If the file is corrupt can you give me any guidance as to how it occurred and how I can prevent it from happening again?

I will look forward to hearing what you and Markus discover and recommend.

I am sorry, but the league files were corrupted and I found no way to fix the issue. I do not know why this happened either, maybe it was a HD fragmentation issue.

I fear you need to start a new league, I suggest installing the latest patch (9.2.2) as well.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the reply Markus!

I'll install the new patch. Despite being disappointed at having to start over, this is still a fantastic game!

Keep up the good work!

I'll close this thread now as the issue has been marked as irresolvable. Sorry to hear that you've lost what you've done
