Historical Break-Away League?

I have an interesting idea but im not sure how to implement it correctly.

Im basically working on a sim project starting in 1986 where about a year or 2 into the sim a number of teams (6 or 8) will break away from the MLB and form a completely new Independent League.

I know I can add a league to my world and move the teams there, but can I possibly prevent fictional players from coming into play? I would like the 2 leagues to share incoming players as well... ideally have both league have seperate "dueling" drafts. Or perhaps splitting the incoming rookies.

How much of this is possible? Or am I basically stuck having to deal with incoming fictional players to the new league?
