Do The Cubs Ever Win?
I'm entering the year 2053 and the Cubs still have yet to win a World Series. . .In fact, they've only made the playoffs two times in the 40 seasons I've played.
Does anyone ever have the Cubs winning a championship in their leagues? |

I did a few test sims with the MLB Roster set and the Marlins won the 2014 WS (don't ask how) and then Cubs won 2015 and 2016 WS.

seriously would check your management AI style and lineups as well as any personal (coaches and doctor) to see if they any good to help your players. Perhaps you can take over a season and help the team win by making smart trades? Maybe the GM is the problem ??? Take a look at the personality of each level of the personal of team.... might very well help

No, that would take away from the realism.

Call me a braggart and a liar.
Won in 2017 in version 14. 2018 the injury monster attacked and had 2 opening day starters and my #1,2,and 3 starters on the 60 day DL by the end of May. My opening day RF only played 60 games all year. After mashing 53 HR the year before while missing a month at the end of the season and all the playoffs with a strained lat. In version 13 I built a dynasty. Started out simming ahead twenty years. Took over the Rangers for a year. Finished a few games under .500 but had managed to unload some bad contracts and made a very nice profit at the end of the year. I was fired as soon as the season ended. The only major league job that was offered was by the Cubs. Won the first of seven World Series in a 25 year run three years later. It was six years before the Cubs returned to the WS, but they never missed the playoffs and appeared in 15 including 5 in a row and a winning streak of three straight in those 25 years. The best part however was when the Cardinals after a decade of mismanagement and plain bad luck, (three straight CEI to 1.1 draft picks), led them to leave the dwindling fanbase of St. Louis and move to the bright lights of Indianapolis.

Actually yes. I was able to lead the Cubs to back to back championships in 2015 and 2016. Pretty much just developed the guys in the system with the only huge addition being signing Kershaw as a FA. He went 25-3 during the first championship year. Also helped that I drafted a SP in my second draft that ended up becoming a solid #2(I took Appel in my first draft and he bottomed out, I have never seen him have success). Baez bottomed out in AAA but Soler developed nicely as did Caldeneiro and a SS I converted to 2B Marco Hernandez.

The Cubs beat me twice in the World Series in my historical sim. Once when I managed the red sox in 1934, then when I managed the Philadelphia A's in 1938. That fact likely says a lot about my managerial skills, sadly.

I am managing the Cubs, and every year I've made the playoffs. But every year, just before the playoffs or in the playoffs, most of my starting players get injured.
2012 - All 5 starting pitchers were injured in the week prior to the playoffs or during the playoffs. 2013 - The entire starting infield, two of the starting OF, and 3 of the starting pitchers injured just prior to the playoffs. Starlin Castro went down the first playoff game. 2014 - I sat most key players most of the games two weeks before the playoffs, and entered the playoffs with no significant injuries. In game 1 Castro was injured (out for 5 weeks.) In game 2 the starting RF was injured (still no word on length.) I managed to win the divisional series, but who knows how many more injuries are on the way. BTW, in 2013 I drafted a young 3B. I was surprised to find his ratings at incredibly high levels. He immediately became the starting 3B and had a terrific 2013 (hit over .300, .420 OBP, great defense.) In 2013 he went down in August with a broken hand. His injury time ended the last day of the regular season. Up until that day all his ratings were still high. I added him to the playoff roster. His ratings immediately plummeted... His speed decreased from 82 to 16. His star rating decreased from 5 to 1. Contact down from 70 to 54, gap power down 20 points, avoid K down 20 points. The player editor screen showed all his underlying ratings down significantly. How would breaking a hand make someone slower? |

It just gets worse and worse. Despite injuries to two key players my Cubs made the WS. In game 1, with the pitcher batting, the runner from 1st tried to steal second. He was safe, but the pitcher (who was standing at home plate batting) was injured on the play.

WS Game 3, down goes the backup SS.
So now it's Castro (starting SS). starting RF, #1 starting pitcher, and backup SS all injured and out of the playoffs. I'm also short two players because I can't change the playoff roster in the middle of a series. |

It wouldn't let me replace the injured players.
