down with injuries then rookies take over
In my current 2014 season for none other than the Detroit Tigers I have had lots of injuries on my team. Three of my best players was down for 2 months 8 months and all season. The amazing thing is I didnt have enough money for low tier free agents so I just went to my AAA team and brought the players up and they are tearing up the league. Was wondering if any other players have had the same success from farm club due to injury to surprise you with their play??

In my OOTP13 MLB quickstart game (imported into 14 before the 2019 season), I signed an outfielder to fill out my Triple-A roster before the season. I had Carlos Gonzalez and my stud outfielder, Henry Moyer, both go down with injuries after the all-star break. I called up this guy I had signed and he hit over .300 with 10-plus homers and a handful of stolen bases in about 40 games, helping me get the second wild card spot. Totally unexpected out of him.

I have just had this happen a few times in my fictional league, some of them college draftees who made it to the majors in their first and second years! This was very lucky for me, as I deleted the service history of everyone at the start which really messed with the team finances, so atleast i now have some players who won't cost much money to replace all the stars I can't affoird any more.

The homerun on his last AB last night was impressive. He turned on the inside pitch and got the barrel out in front and the ball was crushed. Great looking swing and he has pretty good walk-to-K ratios in his minor league career. I hope he can stick with the Yankees, I totally agree.

Sorry, r0nster, back to topic. The fact that this kind of thing can happen in this game is a testament to its superb realism.

I had never had such success from my farm system. I used to always resort to the free agent market. I just couldn't afford FA this season so I used the farm system that I had built via trades. Made good trades without knowing it LOL
I was more surprised than anything that I had a player I had out of minors to do so well in the place of prince fielder .... should I trade fielder NAWWW lol |

At least in many of my farm teams, there are plenty of guys who are really good at one or two things, but don't have the multiple tools needed to really make it permanently into the bigs - these guys are perfect for injury fill-ins, as long as you are careful, watch their splits, and play them to their strengths.

I started a OOTP14 game as the Astros (trying to see how fast I can make 'em NOT suck) and I called up George Springer from AAA to fill out my September roster and he ended up batting like .346 with 9 hrs that month. He tore up Spring training too and earned a starting spot. Now the Astros are hovering around .500 in late May 2014, but Springer is batting like .246 with a .295 OBP so maybe he wasn't QUITE ready yet.
Though he's still somewhat of a HR machine so all is not lost. |
