Where to find setups?

There are a number of different scenarios I would like to play under, but would rather have those scenarios created for me. This game is just too 'deep' for my mind to wrap around. I don't really have the time to dig through everything, with my job, family and all. Is there some place that mods can be downloaded for OOTP 15 that will create scenarios such as the following?

* salary cap ONLY, no free agents

* no finances, period

* no wildcard, and only 1 division or two

* built-in "history"

* age-outs in minors or majors, or both

* stats only, and NOT have empty rating/finance fields showing

* randomly inserted HO'F'ers

* fictional cities

* manage entire career in minors

* baseball cards with changing pictures, changing stats

* baseball cards with static pictures, static stats (just like in real life)

Some scenarios I envision encompass one or more of the above.

Please, please, please help me with this. Right now a beautiful OOTP 15 game is on computer, and I don't know where to start!

Hey, I hear ya. It can be a lot of game to digest, but you'll get the hang of it.

Go over to the mods forum and have a look around. Also, read through the online manual to help figure out how to create these scenarios you're talking about. It's typically up to each of us to create our own baseball universe. You can also head over to OOTPMods.com too. Basically, there are resources around the web, but it's up to you how creative you want to be. There's so much power in the game, you won't be disappointed. Trust me!

Call me stupid, but I get overloaded easily with lots of information. I still haven't figured out how to (in one league):

* draft players - players drafted and have to stay in the reserve league until a certain age for the "experience"

* salary cap - same salary cap for every team, and it never changes season to season

* fictional only

* sim 10 years out without having sim each season (and be stopped numerous times) separately

* job offers if I refuse a job in the first season (I currently have been testing a league where I refused a job the first season and haven't been offered one since, 5-6 years later

* perfect "short season" number of games

* how to figure out what HOF criteria should be like in relation to X number of games during the season

I don't think you can do this with a reserve roster. What MIGHT work is to set an active player age limit of, like, 22 for the major league. I've never tried, but it might get you there. Sorry, I don't remember right off where this is in the league settings.

Sorry, can't help you there. Setting it should be in the Financials menu, but if it keeps changing I don't know why.

Choose "New Custom Game" at the starting menu and it will walk you through the basic setup. You'll have to switch to Advanced Mode (button in the bottom left) to make some of your tweaks though.

Put yourself in Commissioner Mode to start with, then choose to auto-play/sim "until specified date". Pick your date, then go do something else while it sims. Or, you can watch the standings year-by-year and stuff if that's your thing. You can take yourself out of Commish Mode when you're ready to take over a team.

Use Commissioner Mode to give yourself one? Not sure why you wouldn't get any more job offers.

Depends on what you consider a perfect number. What are you looking for?

Quote:

Multiply the criteria by the ratio of your league's games to 162. For example, if you had an 81-game schedule, 81/162=50%, so just half everything. That way everything stays consistent. Depending on your number of games, you may want to do some rounding if you don't want to have, say, 352 homers be the criteria.

Hope that helped!

You helped tremendously, thank you!

The problem I'm having with not being offered a position is that so far (sorry, can't think of the set up off the top of my head), if I turn down an offer in the first season, sometimes it is YEARS before I get another offer. Is that a random thing? Does deciding not to take a management position the first season do something to my 'credibility'?

When I ask what the perfect number of games is, below the traditional 162 games, I ask that because I'm torn between being a purist and resisting the temptation to speed things up so that I can see history unfold a bit more quickly.

Is there a generally agreed upon "house rule" for calculating a salary cap, based on number o games, teams, etc?

I am noticing that after simming the league 10 years (thanks for the commissioner tip!) that the milestones that players are about to reach do not match the milestones that I set. For example, for a 100 game season I have set the Milestone Career Home Runs to 185 (I checked and verified it), but when I look in the milestone section of the league there is a player listed as being 3 games away from the 183 milestone.

Right now I am trying to respond to an offer for a job for the worst team in the league (they've sucked for years), the drop down box is experiencing some sort of graphical glitch. Only part of the box is dropping down and then is cut off.

No idea about the job offers thing. Or the salary cap, as I don't use it. Sorry.

So far as number of games goes, do you intend to play them all out, play only some, or sim?

The milestones thing sounds like a bug of some kind, or there's a setting that I don't know about which you're missing. Might want to report it in the bug thread.
