Contract Extension: Is it different in 15?

Upgraded from 13 to 15 recently and have a question.

Did the engine for contract extensions change at all?

In 13 on the day Spring Training starts - a player is willing to negotiate a 3 year deal.

In 15 on the same day - the same exact player says that he is unwilling to listen to any extension offers and will test free agency.

Any help would be appreciated

I would like to know how they are figured out. Stats, ratings, position? I'm in a long term online league and we are seeing crazy stuff. Star SP's asking for $2m a year extensions because the game thinks they are MRs. Stud OFs making $15m a year asking for $6m.

Our settings for salary have never changed. What is it based on?
