Newbie Question

Hey guys, I've never bought OOTP. I'm an X1 owner and unfortunately due to the lack of baseball options I have decided to look elsewhere. I played MVP 05 on PC for 4 years in a row with updated rosters, but it just got old. I essentially was managing and discovered this. It looks great! I'm going to try the 15 trial and see if I like it enough to get 16 (which I'm expecting I will).

I had one quick question. It won't make or break my decision to get the game, but:

Is it possible to do a career or whatever with another person on a different PC?

I'm sure this has been covered but I can't find an answer.

You can, but I'm pretty sure it's a lot of work. Maybe it isn't since it's just the two of you.

I will allow others to provide more specific detail, but the short answer is yes you definitely can do this.

Presuming you would want to control one team and the other person control another team ... you could run it the same way an online league runs, but just with two people.

That essentially is that you have one league file, which the other person then downloads. Then you both export your rosters/changes, whatever else, they got imported into the main game, then you can simulate forward however many days you want (online leagues normally do between 7 to 14 days at a time, generally, as an example).. Then download the new league file, rinse and repeat!

Why would it be any more work than someone operating an online league?

I think he means it's going to be more work than TwinsGuy might expect. You can't just set up and play the game with two players, you have to upload and download and export and import. It's very doable, it's just not a simple plug-and-play.

Thanks for the info guys! You are correct that it's a bit more work than I anticipated, but it really doesn't sound that bad. I'd have to discuss it with my friend if it's worth it to start one. I don't know what it would take for an online league in the sense of avoiding that step, but it'd be cool.

Either way, I just pre-ordered 16. 15 minutes of the trial convinced me. Great work!

Once you have your game set up for on-line play it isn't that much to export and update. Getting set up is where the work is at. If one or both of you are decently computer literate is isn't that bad. You will also have to supply a file server to handle the file exchange.

I suppose I could essentially test it out with myself with my wife's computer. It'd definitely be worth a shot. I like to think I am pretty computer literate and can figure stuff out if I don't know it.

I'll have to give it a shot!

Edit. Just found the manual for online leagues. So my cousin obviously wouldn't be able to play the games. Probably means we won't do one. Oh well, we can each do one on our own.

Since it would just be the two of you, you could use Dropbox or something like that to exchange the files, too.

It once took me two days to upload my league file onto dropbox, lol. I'm sure I did something wrong.

Haha, yeah that doesn't sound right. I can usually upload 100 mb files in a minute or two.
