Retiring Numbers

I don't think this happens currently, so someone correct me if i'm wrong, but in OOTP 16, I would REALLY love to see AI controlled teams retire numbers...that would be great to go from team to team to see their "Rings of Honor", so to speak

The AI does retire numbers in OOTP 15.

The Giants have the most (I believe) in my fictional MLB history, with 9 from 1901 though 2020 so far.

Through 37 seasons in my ABF league no team has retired any #'s. Not sure why they haven't.

They do retire numbers I assure you of that but it may depend on years played with certain team and/or team or league records. I have had 4 or 5 guys have Jerseys retired In my league I know 2 of them happened with out HOF induction but right after player retired.

You will probably notice more jersey retiring in historical games than in modern day games. The reason for this is because with modern day free agency rules, you hardly see players sticking with the same teams for 10+ seasons anymore.

Do you know what the exact numbers that get someone retired number? I thought a HOF would for team most played for but I have had a few get it right after hey retire but they were 10+ guys.

I'm not sure if there's an exact number, but most of the players spent a chunk of their careers with a specific team while putting up pretty darn good numbers.

I'll take some screenshots once I get to my PC.

It'd be cool if you could manually do it or set a bar like you can with HOF.

All of these are AI-generated.

Braves, Reds and Athletics.

As a data point, I started a test league in 1866, it's now 1904, and not a single team has a retired number, 74 total teams, of which 16 date back to 1866.

As a second data point, none of the games in my leagues are more than 140 games, and most were just 112 games or less. Thinking the trigger for totals for the AI to retire might be keyed to 1901 and onward MLB, where teams had 140-162 games?

I am in 1937 of a fictional historical league and have had 90% of my players play for their team their entire career. Still no retired #'s.

subscribing to this thread. I always assumed that it was a manual only feature. I wonder what the trigger is

Maybe Markus can chime in?

I have no idea what I did differently. I know that most of the newer expansion teams from the 70's and on haven't really retired any numbers yet (Blue Jays have one) but the majority of the long running teams have.

If anyone wants test it out, here's what I did:

- Started historical mode in 1901
- Deleted all real players from their teams and then from free agency
- This wiped out MLB history. I also made sure to uncheck the real historical rookies box
- Generated fictional players for each team
- Simmed from 1901 through 2015

Gee, that's encouraging...

LOL, j/k. I knew you could manually go in also and retire numbers for other teams, but it would be cool if the AI would do it every once of a while. I mean the screenshot that was posted, that's a crap load of retired numbers and seems a bit much...Like I said, my league is 80+ years strong and I, myself, have only 3 retired numbers, so I wouldn't want it to be excessive, just a little something to go back and look at

Suggestion: Please look at eliminating the possibility of re-using a player number that a team (AI or player) has retired. I believe this situation was mentioned last year when the feature was introduced.
