Owner asked me to acquire an MVP award winner...

So in my second season with OOTP 16, my owner told me to go out and acquire an MVP award winner. Just want to throw it out there that it is tough to pull this task off. Everybody who has already won one is either on the steep decline and/or has an insane contract that I can't afford to take on. So around the deadline, I went out and got Paul Goldschmidt because my lineup needed a lot of help. At the end of the year, here's what my owner told me:

Then, a mere two weeks later, the MVP award winners were released...

It was really surprising for a few reasons. The first one being that I didn't think he deserved it. There were no mind-blowing performances in the NL this year, but he would've been behind a handful of other guys in my opinion. Secondly, my owner just told me that Paul didn't cut it. Luckily, acquiring an MVP winner was on my list of goals for the upcoming season and thanks to this news, I've already completed it.

When Big Stein asks for an MVP, Big Stein gets an MVP! Big Stein does not care that it is an over 30 A-rod!

my guess is they mean a former MVP. Tough goal to accomplish though

I couldn't make all the goals easy to accomplish.

Now, will the owner ask you to acquire an MVP next year?

Also, as the screenshot above shows, owners seem to be pretty reasonable even if you don't accomplish some of those secondary goals. If you don't acquire that All-Star or MVP or improve in that statistical category, the fact that you won 97 games anyway is going to get you off the hook. I like the balance, and the idea that owners don't get furious if each and every one of their goals don't get met as long as their primary goals (how much you win) are accomplished.

I got the California A league MVP on a minor league contract. That should count.

I just thought it was hilarious how he said "Well you got Goldschmidt, but he's not really the caliber of player I'm looking for," and then exactly two weeks later, it is good enough because he won MVP.

So just to clarify, if the owner wants you to acquire an MVP, he wants a former winner not someone who has a shot of winning it in the upcoming season for the first time. Is that correct?

That is correct. So I failed that goal for that season. Luckily, my owner immediately gave me a new set of goals and the "acquire an MVP winner" was on the list again and two weeks later, Goldy won it. So here I am in the offseason with one of my goals already completed.

Most likely the acquire a winner was a 2-year goal (you can see the issue date of the goal). There's a lot of ways to accomplish the goals - I don't know if I even thought of the case of acquiring a player and have him win the MVP with your team!

Question: can you un-complete a goal? In other words, say I had the goal of acquire an All-Star and I sign some cheap guy who had an All-Star appearance back in 2004 and then let him go a week later. Would that still count?

Yeah, I wonder if "was the goal completed" is something that's re-checked when you get your yearly owner review or if having accomplished the goal at some point that year is remembered.

I actually just had a really odd one. My owner in my "testing stuff out and finding new features" league wanted me to acquire a Cy Young winner. Well, I'm the Braves. We suck. I wanted someone I could get for limited resources and be shed of fairly quickly after making the owner happy. So I acquired Dickey on the cheap, and planned to void his option at year's end.

Except my owner still says that I've made no progress towards acquiring a Cy Young winner. Dickey pretty clearly has one, so I'm confused now.

That would be a bug. If you want file a bug in the bug reports thread and include a league file, that would be great. If not I'll try to recreate a similar scenario and see if we have a problem.

As for "un-completing", yes The goal is only locked in at the end of the season, so if the conditions aren't met then, you fail.

Hmmm. I've passed season's end and cut him loose now, though (and the owner still said at season's end, before I voided his option, that I had not made progress, so the goal still stands).

Can you still tell anything by that, or have I gone too far now?

I have had the exact same issue with RA Dickey. It initially showed that I had completed the goal when I moved him onto my 25-man roster but then I think when I installed the patch it stopped recognising it. That may be a coincidence I dont know.
