GM / Manager Interactions

I've always liked to play in GM only mode. The one thing that has always bugged me is when I sign a big named free agent to a large contract and then my manager doesn't play him.

I always wanted a way to ask the manager what role he saw a player playing BEFORE I sign him. With all the new interaction in OOTP 16, is there something like this now?

You can go into the Strategy section and under Player Strategy force a player to be started at a certain position.

Beings will most definitely come." - Gladden Field of Dreams

Thanks but that defeats the purpose of GM only mode. I envision the kind of discussion like this happening behind the batting cage before a game.

GM: You heard Danny is out for 6 months with a torn ACL right?
Manager: Yeah, we are going to need to find a way to fill the hole at 3B now
GM: I think I can get us Joe Smith. What do you think?
Manager: I don't think he fits in. He doesn't have a good enough glove.
GM: What about Jack Johnson?
Manager: I would start him against lefties and use him as a late inning defense guy.

Yeah that's my dream. I'd settle for a field on the players card like the expected role only showing what the managers expected role for him is.

I would like to see the same thing going the other way as well. I'm playing manager only in the present day. My team had consecutive extra inning games with rain delays. The GM has already saddled me with only 11 pitchers. All my relievers were exhausted and it was four more days until an off day. I would love the ability to make requests to my GM, i.e. "I need another reliever for a few days", "This guy is terrible, can we trade or demote him", "I think we should keep this guy around long-term". Not ordering or commanding the GM, but giving input like managers can do to improve their team

I had this issue in the first season of my expansion team, I fired the manager midway and picked up someone with rep lower than mine and set the lineups myself.

Seems logical if you hire a manager with a certain level of gravitas they will want to play things their own way. The flip side is if you get a manger who can manipulate and are a star studded team, they may not respect him the same.

What about if when you are playing in GM mode, before finalizing any transaction (trade, signing, call up) you could go to the depth chart/line up / pitching depth screens to see where the manager slots the player before pulling the trigger? This would be replacing a scripted conversation with basically asking, at least from the outset, "what are you going to do with this guy if I pick him up?" This way, you're not wasting rookie service time on a prospect the manager is going to sit on the bench or wasting money on the gold glove caliber free agent SS who becomes a late inning replacement only. Now that would be pretty sweet in my opinion.

Yes, I'm not looking for a scripted conversation, just the overall concept. I'd like to know what my manager thinks of a player before I make a move to acquire them. Same thing would be useful in spring training too.

So, basically like the current/future role on a pitcher's profile page, only on the trade screen or something. I like it.

Yes, only I would put it on the player profile page so you could see how your manager would use any player.

I think those are some great idea. There should also be interaction between you and the GM when in Manager only mode.

I recently started a new league just to try out the new manager mode. One of the first moves my GM made was to sign a second baseman and demote one of my shortstops to AAA. This left me with little flexibility at that position.

It would be great to be able to ask the GM to try and add a certain type of player. And maybe also the ability to pick a player in the minors and let the GM know that you would like that player on your active roster.
