FA Negotiations taking too long

I know some guys with high greed level will just drag negotiations on forever, but in this situation it went too far.

I'm in the offseason before the 2021 season. Taijuan Walker just told me that 200mil over 7 years wasnt enough (signed for 5 mil more over 7 years with the yanks UGH). This happened in the middle to end of January. I need a plan B. I like how Jacob deGrom looks so i start negotiations with him. And so the cycle begins. Submit offer. Favors offer. Wants more money. I do this up until spring training. I give my offer a big boost hoping i can get him signed in time for camp. Submit offer. Favors offer. Wants more money. I continue the process all the way through spring training. April 1st he tells me he wants more money. At this point i just say F it, I'm offering him 80mil over 4 years which is already a gross overpayment, i need an arm, i go and find a guy who will sign a 1 yr 2mil deal almost immediately.

I have no problem with players waiting to drive the price up. But I just dont see them missing all of spring training to do that. Its not like he was that old. 32 years old, not like the 40+ Clemens only wanting to pitch from June on. Opening day has arrived and he STILL isnt signed. meanwhile on the offseason page his rumored demand is a 1yr 5mil deal. But he just told me 80/4 isnt good enough. I wish there was a way for FAs to be cognizant of the time of year. unless youre the 40 year old clemens you should be trying to be in spring training

I've personally never seen it take that long. The only reason he'd ask for more money is if another team was also submitting contracts. Which can drag out the process.

FA player are cognizant of time of year. It's why their prices drop as the season gets closer and then during the season.

well clearly there is at least one other team because the price keeps going up. And his rumored demand on the offseason center shows his price dropping but even if i withdraw my offer and go back to negotiate it's not like he is willing to accept a 1 year 5 mil deal. he is still looking for the 4 year deal for big bucks. i mean i guess he is getting more money but now he isnt going to have any spring training.

Players lie too. Confirm it by offering $10 more than your last offer, not the offer they say they have. They will say it's good and then come back for more in a few days.

so is it possible that even though it shows that he wants more money, he comes back to me and says i had the best offer all along?

No and that's where the flaw lies. I had a 3 month dalliance with a FA RP and he ended up signing with another team for exactly what I offered previously in the middle of ST. His proposal to me which I did not respond to was $1M more. It's annoying.

I think the game has it built in that the AI gets preference if the contracts are the same. It's a common crutch devs give the AI in sports games. Otherwise every player would always match the AI and get every player they want. Forcing the player to bid higher makes them think more about getting the player.
