AI and depleted pitching staffs
One of the biggest advantages a human player has is being able to get him or herself out of a situation where everyone on the pitching staff is overworked and overtired. When I've got multiple pitchers who are completely unavailable for the day, I send one or two guys down and bring up a rested Triple-A starter to give me some length so I can get through the next few days. The AI, on the other hand, stubbornly sticks with the same 12 man pitching staff, even if every pitcher in the red. This also applies when you've got some day-to-day or undiagnosed injuries.
Additionally, the AI will never use a starter in relief in extra innings. Instead they run their last reliever into the ground and bring in a position player once the game is out of reach.
