Random debut league questions

First off, I apologize if my questions have been addressed in other threads, but I have searched the forums (and a few prior version forums) and still have some questions.

I am going to set up a 16 team fictional league with random debut rookies. How many random debut rookies can I expect to have in each year's first year player draft in my 16 team league? Do all the random debut rookies come in with their potential based on their actual careers? I saw in one forum that the random debut rookies will progress like any other rookies, some will reach their actual career level and some will fall short just like any rookie. Is this true? I hope so since that would make the league more interesting. Do the random debut rookies come in at a range of ages, 18-22, or do they all come in at the same age (18?)?

Thanks for your help.

As many rounds as you tell it to generate in the settings.

There are several different options, such as potential by Career Peak, potential by Remaining Seasons of Career, etc

Yes, but how much so will be decided by if you use "recalc" or if you have the OOTP development engine progress the players. There's a lot of options.

Thanks for your help.
They come in at a range of ages, and your initial pool of players will have both guys at the beginning of their careers and at the end, to maintain an ideal age distribution throughout your league.

jays, thanks for your reply - does all this relate to random debut rookies that arrive in the annual first year player draft? I didn't realize there were so many options, like the career stuff. When does all that get set up in the first year player draft?

You'll set it at game start and probably never touch it again.

Screenshot incoming.

The inaugural draft will have guys in age ranging from when they debuted to their last yr. IF you do not want for example any players over 30 then delete them BEFORE you start the draft. They will then appear in later seasons.
....
For drafts after that players will enter at their real life major league debut age usin the stock OOTP db.
....
Using the Spritzes db then the vast majority will enter at age 18, some earlier (IIRC) if they debuted earlier than 18 IRL. Some of the really early 1870's guys may be older.
....
Generally using the OOTP DB most players debut pretty close to or at their full potential. Spritze DB less developed since they are younger.

Here's a bunch of screenshots to show the possible options:

I use "Neutralized Stats, Remaining Seasons of Career, 3-year Period, 3-year Period." That uses defensive statistics/positions played for the 3 years around their import years to determine defensive ratings. Same for Pitcher Stamina. Using a 3-year period allows for a pitcher like a Dennis Eckersley to import as a starter for those that get him as a young man, and as a stud closer for those that get him as an older gent.

I personally find these to be the best settings for long-term random debut play, but your mileage may vary.

I hope this helps you out!

For the record, I do not recommend this except in very small amounts as you do not want to mess up the age distribution of your league.

If you remove players as older men and replace them with younger men, you are going to have some players then blocked by the extra younger men taking up longer careers.

Not that it can't be done, but if you were going to remove a player and add him as his younger self, I would remove a different young player and add a new older player so as to not mess up the age distribution of your league.

Just my two cents.

Mark, since you read my dynasty, that's the reason why I'm re-importing the guys as their "sons" down the road... its to keep the age distribution as OOTP keeps it. It can do some tweaky things once you tweak that too much, and I learned it the hard way in a prior version.

Personally I have never ran into it as an issue, I tend to mae my RD lgs small (12 teams or less) to start then expand as I go with maybe 40 rounds, this keeps the # of 'older' players smaller and I only delete them IF I recgnize the name AND they were good+ in real life, might end up being 50 or so guys so thats a small enough # to maybe not throw it out of whack enough for me to notice.
....
But I do appreciate the heads up.....

Yeah, its just one of those things that can lead to some weird results. Small amounts is still OK. I just went through once and took all the HOFer's I found that were aging out and replaced them with their younger self... it got *weird*

Where is the Spritze DB? Is it under one of the files we have once we download the game? Or do we have to download it separately from these forums ? Sorry, I know this is basic stuff, but sometimes the things that are most old hat to veterans on this site are so taken for granted that some of us never learn directly who, what or where. Thanks.

Thanks jaysdailydose, found it, downloaded it and am going through the inaugural draft pool for a league starting in 1921. Amazing. Much more interesting pool of players, not just the Japanese league and Negro League players, but even some Major Leaguers that you rarely or just don't have come up usually in Random Debut leagues. A wonderful new tool for those of us who love DB leagues. Thanks all of you !

The screenshots you provided are for creating a historical league. I want to set up a fictional league with random debut rookies appearing in the annual first year player draft. Do you have any insights into that kind of league? Thanks.

Personally , I find it easier to set it up as historical then change the things I want , cities, nicknames, minors, etc rather than try and remember change all the fictional stuff rules, finances, etc I want since even in fictional I want strategys, $, etc to be historically accurate. Thats one of the biggest +'s to OOTP, I can play it my way!!!!!

The random debut options will be the same. They will just appear on different areas (no wizard).

I'm not sure if you can set up a fictional league and have random debut players show up in the inaugural draft. Are you wanting a mixture of fictional players with real random players, or a 100% real players from random years?

I want to set up a fictional league with just fictional players in the inaugural draft, then have random debut players appear in the annual first year player draft. I have started a test league with just fictional players in the initial setup and checked the box for "Use random rookies from all eras" under "Game settings"/"Options". I've simmed a couple years but no random debut rookies have appeared yet. Am I doing something wrong or what is what I'm looking for not possible?

This should work. What year are you starting your league in?
