new custom game - crash workaround

if this is wrong forum, sorry.

there are 2 posts in the bug forums about this, and i have also had this problem more than once. in a 'new custom game' you click 'real world league' in the league wizard, select a league and the game crashes at 'loading players' when you try to advance(my trace was the same as the one posted in bug reports)

i think this bug happens when you cancel new custom games (maybe multiple in a row) or it crashes for any reason when the new custom game is being created/loaded after settings portion. i was also fiddling with historical leagues before i had a problem creating a new custom game.

first, i started a 'new standard game' and made a template. i then created a 'new custom game' using the template -> success loading players, but it once loaded, it was april 4th and i want to start at mar 21 like a normal 'new custom game,' so i was not satisfied. i made sure to finish the process, save it, and exit the game.

my memory is a bit unsure from this point on, and i don't know for sure when things began to work properly again, relative to a new custom game. i had been awake for over 24hours, so i wasn't functioning well.

i then made another game in similar fashion, but before starting the game, i made a template in the 'advanced mode' of the game creation process - after the mlb and minor leagues were successfully added. i finished the process, saving and exiting.

upon creating the new custom game with the template from the 'new custom game' creation process, i believe i started on march 21, and all was well. i could be wrong.

on a whim i tried to make a new custom game without any template. it magically works again. i have no problems creating a 'new custom game' anymore.

what i am not sure about: i might have started a normal new custom game successfully, sans templates, immediately after the using the template from the 'new standard game' to create a league (the new custom game that started on april 4th above). also, i only use MLB and associated minors. if you use other leagues, i'd suggest making the 'new standard game' and it's template exactly how you want your 'custom game' to be structured. i doubt other settings matter. i think it's just a matter of a successful 'new custom game' loading and that somehow clears out some temporary/intermediary data that was bogus. reinstalling never worked - either through the troubleshooting option or deleting and re-downloading the setup for a fresh install.

regardless, after the problem abated, i made sure to create a basic game creation template to avoid this problem in the future - 'game creation - update 5.'

this is not the first time i encountered the problem. if memory serves, i did similar things before i realized it was working again, and then went on to break it again somehow, LOL. i'm more sure about it now, because i had more purpose in my actions.
