Jose Fernandez
As many of you know Jose Fernandez as been the best pitcher I have ever had in this game since 2001 (year I bought first CD of game) He is 150 Strikeouts short of 6000. Should I go for it and sign him for 1.8 mil with 2 option years he wanted in his contract. He is 39 years old and his ratings have in the last 3 season nearly fallen off the table but amazingly his stamina has been strong. I am tempted to sign him for this amount just only for his personal goals of breaking 411 wins OOTP has that as the most instead of 511 from Cy Young. He has 404 wins right now too. He is my number 5 starter and hasn't affected too much of my pitching staff just yet (knocking on wood as it were)
Should I go for it or not????? and if you want screen shot of anything let me know. BTW his ratings have NOT been touched (DID NOT cheat) |

bottomline is I wonder if you guys would go for it ??? I know in real life we would want them to stay and go for it. But in OOTP would you????

If he didn't fit what I wanted with my team I'd let him go.
In one of my test leagues for the world I was working on I let a aged veteran (38 years old) go to FA. He was 1 win away from 100 (in my world that's a huge milestone) not only 1 win away he would have been the first to do it. Nobody signed him the next year and he retired from FA with 99 wins. It took 7 more years for a pitcher to get 100 wins. |

I would do it in a heartbeat. But I tend to be overly loyal towards my guys.

I'll be curious to see if he is a unanimous 1st ballot hall of famer when that time comes or will there be some stubborn old writer who follows his rule of "never electing a 1st balloter!"
One other thing. I don't view editing a players ratings as cheating. IMO it's customizing the experience to the users liking. |

Fyre .... I actually submitted that offer. I am sure he would accept. I am actually hoping he does break the 411 wins and 6000 Ks

You know you're going to do it, just hit the button and then post the retirement card.

TLB.... I have checked on that and I have NOT found one HOFer been 100% voted in of which I thought was odd in itself

One of the other reasons that happens is when you get a guy who is nearly unanimous, some writers will use that vote elsewhere as a way to move another guy forward since they believe he'll get in anyway.

I agree that going into the editor can change the game, reduce some of the challenge etc.. But so can playing with scouting at 100% accuracy, TCR at 0, injury frequency at low, rating ranges at 20-80, etc... |

I would offer him 2.5 mil to get rid of the option years and let him try to break the record.

By all means, play it your way, but if you were meant to see the pure ratings, they would be in open view. Giving yourself knowledge of those ratings is tantamount to cheating in my book. But I'm not the OOTP police, I was just stating my opinion.

Just so you guys know I am very much old school Manager .... I let my pitchers go deep into games and often allow them to complete the games especially with the success with Jose Fernandez.

He should definitely be able to handle a fifth starter role at very least. The reduction in stuff will be compensated for by his movement, he's got great stamina... and "knows how to win."
I'd definitely be giving him the chance at history in my uniform.
