The Reds just threw a no-hitter against my team...and we won.

We got a sac fly in the bottom of the 7th inning that ended up being the difference-maker. This is awesome for me as a baseball fan, but I'm sure my hitting coach is going to have a few nightmares after this performance.

Anyway, I just found it really interesting so I thought I'd share it.

Awesome story. Games like this you never forget. In real life, i remember being a little kid and watching Andy Hawkins pitch a no hitter and the Yankees lost the game 4-0. Jim Leyritz made 2 errors in left field costing the Yanks the game.

Joe Cowley is another one of my favorites. No-hitter, but he gave up 7 walks in the game which led to him winning 7-1.

Some years ago, MLB took away all non-regulation no-hitters - meaning that anyone who threw a rain-shortened no-hitter lost credit for it. No-hitters now had to be regulation, nine-inning outings.

This led to poor Andy Hawkins losing *his* no-hitter as well, since he only pitched 8 innings (losing his no-hitter on the road). I've always argued that he pitched a compete game according to the rules, so he should in fact keep credit for it; it's not his fault Leyritz wore a griddle pan that afternoon.

Oddly, the game doesn't draw this distinction. I see no-hitters announced, but then see in the news report that "Jones faced just 19 batters" and double-check the linescore. Yup, rain-shortened.
