About developing players
How likely is a 23 overall pitcher who has 65 potential to develop? Player is 24 y/o and is current on the majors.
Through 6 games he has son 4-2. So he seems to be doing fine but his overall still way off. Pitching era of 3.48. Also, how valuable are international prospects? 18 y/o 20 overall but 70 pot, perhaps in 4 years he might see some game? And how old is toó old to keep trying to develop him? 27 y/o with 70 pot but 28 overall, meh stats. Should give up and release him? |

1. He'll develop. He still has roughly two more years. With those stats, I'd keep him around.
2. I like them, usually go all in once every 5 years. Sometimes you find some gems. It's more volatile than the draft, so be wary. 3. He's done. He's an organizational guy at this point, so if the stats aren't there you can cut him.

Based on the ratings of that 27-year-old vet, I'm wondering how good your scout is.

A lot of good major league pitchers don't realize their potential until their late 20's.
Usually you can wait a little longer on the pitchers. However if they aren't showing anything its probably no good to keep them around. High k totals are GOOD. RonP |
