Very few innings for closers in spring training
Is it just me or does it seem like closers get very few innings in spring training? I'm playing as general manager, and the manager sets the staff. Whichever player is designated as the closer only gets a handful of innings during the spring, usually around 4.0-6.0 innings total. I've noticed because I'm always looking out for signs that my aging closers are starting to falter.
Closers are set to be used "often". I don't have a ton of pitchers, maybe 12-13 during spring training, so it's not a case of the manager having too many bodies to get into the games. The setup guys, and everybody else, seem to get around 15-20 innings each, more or less.
