The most rewarding part of playing OOTP is....

Rebuilding a team and then seeing a guy who was once your starter buried in your AAA depth chart....thinking "I remember that guy!" and realizing how far you've come.

Or, I should say, at least it is to me.

Would anyone else want to share what they find the most rewarding.

That first play-off push down the stretch. Just hoping for a 5 or 6 game winning streak to keep up with the 1st place team. Going back-and-forth then finally winning the division.

That is my favorite.

Cracking the playoffs with a rebuilding franchise. 3-5 years of turnover and building foundations, then finally seeing it all pay off.

I enjoy doing my own, slow version of "worst to first" where I take a bad team that fired the GM *and* manager, then taking over and getting them to the playoffs--or get fired (I let myself get canned). Usually, if the latter happens, I build a new league and start again, because I like seeing new leagues.

This used to be faster, but I started playing "manage 6innings+" instead of just being the GM, so now seasons take about three weeks to a month instead of a few weeks. On the other hand, I am finding I like that control a lot better, I know the team better, etc. On the third hand--doing this means I pay little attention to the rest of the league. I'm locked in to MY team and their rivals only.

Building an expansion team, along with watching MY draft picks develop and (in a few cases) have success and the ML level.

When selecting the name of your GM/Manager select one of these names for your name : Markus Heinsohn, Matt Arnold or Andreas Raht. You win the Championship every year if you follow that simple rule.

I think seeing that first player inducted into your leagues Hall of Fame has to rank high on the list. I never sim, so when I start getting players inducted, I know I've got a successful league. From that point forward, I wish I could hire someone to make sure I do nothing to screw my league into oblivion. Usually, it's expansion or some other silly move on my part and I find myself starting over. Ugh

I also enjoy looking through the history of the team I am running and see which one of "my" guys are on the all time leaderboards, single season leaders, draft history, retired jerseys, HOFers.

Creating a league and watching it build facets of its own history over time.

The fact of watching your star second baseman age and hope you can squeeze one more year out of him because your replacements keep fizzling out

And reporting on it on this forum!

For me it's the rivalries that build up in your mind in fictional leagues, and how they play out.

The Charlotte Blue Sox lost to the Calgary Stampede in three straight world series' in an NAL game I'm running (to prepare for my first dynasty report game ), only to eventually win their first ring against the Leon Kings a few years later. In my head, they're not satisfied until they beat Calgary for the championship. No other rings matter to them.

To make matters worse, their star SP was MVP in two of the three championships, but was out for the season when they won the ring, so he doesn't have one. Feels bad, man.

That type of thing is why I play OOTP.

I just started playing, and I watched my team battle to tie for the division lead with two other teams with 5 games to play. I was already printing the virtual playoff tickets!

We promptly lost the last 5 in a row, missing the playoffs and wildcard.

My reward was the real feelings of frustration and angst, LOL! OOTP won me over in just two simulated seasons.
