That's a pretty broad question.

What exactly is happening when you try to back up?

Are you receiving an error message? If so, which screen and what does the message say?

If you can explain the problem we can likely find a solution.

Nope; never had a problem backing up. There are so many options available.

As Bluenoser says tell us more.

Backup

It seems it only happens on the 2 leagues I have started after the last update. When I go to backups under file. I hit start back up and an Error message comes up. "Error during backup function. The backup could not be updated!"

So far my other leagues still are ok.

Is there a previous back up already there?

If so, try moving the folder to another location and then try a back up from within the game again.

only problem i have is (not always but often) the computer says "Not Responding" .... i just leave it to do it's thing and usually within 5 mins or less, a back up is completed. (Seems to happen a lot when the year turns from Dec. 31 to Jan 1 ... on the game.) i back up after every session.

If you back up after the new year transition you can have 2X the number of files. The backup can be much longer. I remove all the CSV dumps the Almanac and many other superfluous files from the Jan 1 file.

Consider using 7zip a free utility that is very flexible.

i'm not certain what files are "superfluous". not even certain where the CSV files are located really. don't use the almanac at all, nothing is checked in those boxes. All these files are in default area where the game sends them (OOTP>Documents)? Anyway .... thanks. I'll try back-ups later, maybe Feb. time frame before pre-season .... not a big deal. i understand there are more files, didn't realize it was 2x though. appreciate the info.

Well it's not 2X if you have no csv files and/or an Almanac. You can get a file count by right clicking/properties. See below.

Just to illustrate, this file count and size is as of Dec 5. After Jan 1 the size will be about 0.76GB.

interesting .... will see what mine looks like when i finish this season .... i'm doing historical, 1901 foreard (i'm up to 1909 now) - adding Negro League Players i've found from a variety of sources, and not using dead ball era modifiers .... sort of different approach. But i've tinkered with various ideas / methods three or four different ways so far (from back in OOTP 13) .... love this stuff and the historical figures ... and thank you for the info. It's appreciate. have a good one.

ah. i see. i guess what i've been doing is saving all my games/seasons into one file... So i only had the last saved session to go back to if i needed to reinstall, not a particular season. That probably made for longer back-up times as well. Anyway. if nothing else, i'm now going to save each season on it's own - until i get bored and decide to restart from 1901 with another strange idea .... you've been a load of help. i did bookmark that page you linked so i can look at it closer when i end my current season.

Use whatever sequence in a Mac that gives you folder size. Best I can do.

Tried what? I can't see a post that suggested you open anything. Backup folders in OOTP (Win) are restored with a different filename before being opened. It may or may not work that way with Macs. I'm getting confused.

Bottom line is that backup files can be corrupted. All it takes is a small power blip during the process.

On Windows, you might have got used to right-clicking on a file and clicking “Properties” to see the meta information about the file itself – such as its size, and so on.

On Mac OS X, you can do the same thing by choosing the “Get Info” command.

You can get to it in a variety of ways:
  1. Select the file in a Finder window, and hit Command+I
  2. Select it, and click on the File menu, then Get Info
  3. Select it, then click the Action button in the Finder toolbar, and choose Get Info
  4. Control-click or right-click on it, and click Get Info from the popup list

You can use Get Info on anything you see in a Finder window, whether it’s a file, a folder, a drive, anything.

I don't use Mac but I searched and fount found these instructions. Hope they help!!!
