Possible solution to "Unknown" or incorrect State of birth
I know nothing about programming, so I don't know if this would be a really easy thing to implement, or a really hard one. It seems like it would be easy; but again, I know nothing about programming.
Historical players often show up with a country of origin, but no city (or state) of birth. I understand this: there are too many cities to include all of them in any database.
But they also often show up with the correct city name, but the wrong state. I can't figure out what criteria the game is using to determine whether a player born in Springfield was from the one in Ohio, Massachusetts, or Illinois; invariably, if it's a city that has a like-named city in another state (which hundreds, perhaps thousands of American cities do), the game gets the wrong one.
Again, not knowing anything about programming, I'm guessing that the program is directing the game to look for country first; city second; and state/province/county either third or not at all.
If that's the case, it seems like it would be an easy fix to direct it to look for country first, state/province/county second, and city third. This would not only ensure that the correct city/state combination is observed for each player, but would also at least give the players whose birth city isn't in the database a state of origin in addition to a country of origin.
EDIT: Oops, I meant to put this in the OOTP section (which I will now do). But maybe it applies to FHM as well.
