My SP Holds the Record For SS ERA, Should He Start 1 More Game?

I just clinched the division. I have 2 games left. The #5 SP is due up next then my #1. Should I start my #1 in the season ender, or bump him up one game (We had a day off, so it would be normal rest). The date is 9/28. Playoffs start 10/1.

Save him for Game 1 of the playoffs. Nothing trumps playoffs.

records are a nice thing, but winning beat records.
you want to win the world series. for that you want to start your best guys in the playoffs.

if roles were slightly reversed and your SP would be very close to the record and could claim the record with a good last game, i still wouldnt consider starting him

As a manager, Ted Williams was not in that situation.

Anyway, I'd save the guy for Game 1.

24 votes for sitting him. Thinking it would have been closer. Thanx for voting.

You know what, though? We all have the benefit of rational "out of the moment" thought. Having intimate knowledge of this (the Harvey decision in Game 5)... would you do things different if you were actually in the dugout dealing with these guys for reals? I think you might.

totally different. Harvey already pitched a great game, and the question was when to pull him out.

here, OP is considering if to start a pitcher or not. this is better compared to the Harvey Inningslimit that came up during the season. the manager(or higher powers to be) had plenty of time to consider when and how often to bench him (or not) as the season ran out

You play for rings not records. It's a no brainer in my opinion. In real life you would be chastised by the fans and media if you sacrificed your post season for one record. They would be calling for your termination.
