Multi-core processing for fast sim speed

This is huge. This is the kind of the under-the-hood retooling the game really needed to improve performance.

It was a nightmare to code, just ask Matt

It's not just simming that is faster. Also things like shopping players or that dreaded teams strength report are way faster now.

Ill bet it was a nightmare to code that stuff. You might need some therapy before you start work on OOTP18!

I can only imagine. But what the heck. If it wasn't hard, it wouldn't be worth doing, right? Think of all those happy faces, especially habitual historical simmers, like me, who can't seemingly get from one decade to the next fast enough, now being able to zip from the Jazz Age to the Disco Era a whopping 60% faster.

Get down and boogie, baby!.

Yep. Couldn't thread everything, but on the whole, the game runs somewhere like 30-60% faster than it did before. Don't worry, still more improvements we can do in future versions too

This is really good news, especially for those crazy people who like to sim large worlds (me). Thanks for making it happen!

Somebody check this guy for a pulse. Have you always been so cool? Maybe your personality has OOTP code now.

Just a worry that we might run into some nasty memory leaks because of this retooling?

I think that this is the biggest new feature in 17. Well done.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

I wouldn't worry about memory leaks. We mostly just moved stuff around.

We're working through the debugs and crashes, but have put in a lot of testing on it. There's a reason this was the first feature we worked on, and have been testing it since August. And I do make sure to only use it in specific spots - we really haven't changed the overall flow of the program, mostly just use it so instead of going through one team at a time having each set their lineup, we do them all in parallel.

I'm actually kind of intrigued that this is the first time it's being implemented, though it is kind of a huge change pretty deep in the belly. I haven't been let down by the games performance in recent years, but this could be a huge upgrade.

Hype is rising.

I am very excited about this. Hardly glamorous, but extraordinarily awesome.

I've never had a problem with the speed. In fact I kinda like to watch the season progress. To me it's more fun to follow the playoff race than to start and be done in 5 seconds.

Well, you can still take your time if you want to "stop and smell the roses". Just think of the time that you save waiting for the game to sim as time you can take to poke through stats output instead.

This should make my 274 team high school and 102 team college feeder leagues move a long a little more smoothly.

I think some stats should be in the Road to Release for OOTP 17.

Compare OOTP 16 simming sped to OOTP 17. Heck even include an older one for fun. Just a thought.

True but I like to do both. I'm greedy that way.
It's like watching the 78 race between the Yankees and redsox and then going over the stats when the world series is over.
Just more enjoyable to me. But yeah it is useful if your testing a league or something like that.

I think the benefit is much more oriented towards the shop a player and loading speeds being quicker than the sim speed. Especially the strength overview and shop a player feature, an increase in speed for those features would be huge.

Oh wow yes. If this makes shop a player faster... its a great thing to have.
