NL MVP v. Cy Young Award

Just completed the 2016 season and I have the game set so that a pitcher can win the MVP award. I "asked the computer" to select award winners and it came back with Kershaw winning the NL MVP award but coming in second to Arrieta for the Cy Young award.

I am trying to understand what is going on here. My thought is that if Kershaw is the MVP, shouldn't he also be the Cy Young winner? Not sure if this is a setting I can change, or if I am not understanding the purpose of the awards. Any insight would be appreciated.

What were Arrieta's stats vs. Kershaw? What was each team's record and standing?

Both teams made the playoffs, with the Cubs having the best overall record in the NL & MLB. The Cubs lost in the NLDS, while the Dodgers lost in the World Series. Kershaw was 19-7 with a 2.64 ERA. He led the NL in strikeouts, BB/9, K/9, K/BB, FIP, and WAR. Arrieta was 18-5 with a 2.22 ERA. He did not lead in any pitching category but was in the top 3 in five categories.

I agree with you. I would have given Kershaw both awards.

I went back and carefully looked over the stats and standings. Based on what I saw, I awarded the NL Cy Young to Kershaw.
