Top Ranked Players in OOTP17

The top ranked players in Out of the Park Baseball 17 | MLB | Sporting News

These lists don't seem to make a ton of sense to me but maybe I'm missing something? The pitcher rankings especially seem off.

After looking at Phil Hughes stats from last year, i had NO idea how good his control was.

As a Dodgers fan, it's nice knowing that Zach Lee has the 3rd best control in the league!

Well they're based on ZIPS projections, but yes some of them do seem a bit off. We're still doing some tweaking as needed though.

I happen to love ZIPS and love how you guys switched from PECOTA. Just some of this seems a little off. Can't wait to get the game and see the rest of the ratings. Worse case scenario, if any of us disagree, you guys are great at moving ratings around which is greatly appreciated.

I like that there's a Mariner in the top 10 for power, contact and gap power. There's also an Angel, but it's all Mike Trout whereas the M's are 3 different guys. Oh well, Mike Trout is a proven moron and also an idiot so that makes up for things a bit.

Well without seeing his ratings, ZIPS projects Ketel Marte to bat under 270. Hard to see why his contact rating would be better than someone like Mike Trout.

Yes, something is almost surely off there.

Jealous much? Of course, if he was a Mariner he'd be a freakin' Mensa member amirite?

Josh Donaldson, the 2015 MVP not mentioned once ? What's wrong with that picture. A very strong dislike for my Blue Jays. LOL

It is true that the best evidence that Trout is a dum-dum is the uniform that he wears.

I wonder if he used 100% scouting or was going off of his team's scout when making the article.

Also, out of the context of the game I feel like this article will be lost on any non OOTPers, especially considering stuff gives a nudge to relievers in ratings and nobody who doesn't play the game will know that.

Springer should be on the outfield range and arm list. Marisnick should be on the range list.

As you may've noticed, all the top stuff guys are closers/RP's, which makes sense given that they generally have the highest K rates.

I'm pretty certain the Met's SP would rank very high in stuff among starters.

That's a mistake, obviously

We've discovered an issue that resulted in some MiLB players being quite a bit overrated. We're cleaning that up before release.

How exactly are the ratings created? Do you guys copy all of the ZIPS projections and leave it? Or if a player is rated different then his projections, how do you guys decide whose ratings to move around?

Well, that's getting a bit much into the sausage making, so I'm not going to give a full breakdown

Markus imports the ZIPS projections and they automatically adjust the ratings.

The we go through and rate prospects, set MLB lineups, rosters and depth charts to match the expected rl lineups etc. In doing that we have to adjust the ZIPS ratings in some cases to make things reflect reality a bit more.
