Wow, I feel bad.

Recreating the 1989 season. The team I'm managing started off 1-6. So, I figure, to heck with it. Nothing is going right. I'll let the computer take over for a month.

Right after I do that, they win eight in a row and 14 out of 15.

jeeze...

Just shows how well YOU can manage.

Relax, it happens to everyone.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

It sucks to find out one may suck at managing.

Thanks, Wolf. For a while I was sitting in my room with the blinds closed, staring at the floor with my face in the palm of my hands. I contemplated ending it all, but your kind words have somehow motivated me to carry on. Where would this community be without you?

Hey hey... That's not nice. Remember, now-a-days we all have to be sensitive to one and others' feelings

Well, then, you should remember to be sensitive to your own feelings. Remember, the world we live in has become a giant liberal arts campus, where everyone is special. Even stupid managers.... Like John Ferrel. He has feelings too.

John Farrell manages like Will Ferrell.

Yes and I question whether or not the world is a better place.

i'm sure you would have done just as well had you kept managing. unless you do something really odd, there's no way you have that much influence on a result as a manager.

the team isn't a 13-1 team, nor a 1-6 team. (i would assume, without some editting, draft pick trading, or bogus trades -- alone or in combination)

I just finished a 96-66 season where I thought I had two of those 1-6 stretches in it. It happens and is way too short a stretch to worry about. Actually in my new season with practically the same team I have currently started 3-9 after going 15-11 in spring. A pitching staff that had a team 3.03 ERA last year sitting at 5.79 currently . Not to mention my runner up Golden Arm ace pitcher in game one getting shelled for 8 runs in 3 innings only to turn around and leave his second start in the 2nd and is now in the 60 day DL

But I still got hope. Hell I have to. Two straight 90+ win seasons and only at game 12

Why I love this game so much and is so addicting

just be honest about aging, your players, and anything else that isn't coming to mind. most problems are simply lying to ourselves and denying reality of the situation due to emotional attachment and ego. if you do that, chalk up unexpected results to bad luck. some things are out of our control despite making the best choices possible. playing the odds doesn't mean you will win, but it's always the best path, regardless.

you can't will anything to happen. that would be magic. confidence is a result, not causation.

FWIW the '98 Yankees started out 1-4 and wound up going 114-48 and winning the World Series. The '79 Pirates and '85 Cardinals also started out 1-4 and wound up winning the World Series. It's not how you start, it's how you finish.
