Mike Piazza played for three teams in the course of 10 days in May 1998. He's a bum!

Cliff Lee played for four teams in 2009-10 at a very high level as well.

There are plenty of hall-of-famers who played for multiple teams in their final years. Ricky Henderson played for eight clubs in his last seven seasons: San Diego, Anaheim, Oakland, New York Mets, Seattle, San Diego (again), Boston, and Los Angeles. Gaylord Perry's final five years were spent in six different uniforms: San Diego, Texas, New York Yankees, Atlanta, Seattle, Kansas City.

Not too many HoF'ers, however, played for three clubs in three years during the prime of their careers. From 1975 to '77, Reggie Jackson had a one-year detour in Baltimore between Oakland and the Yankees. From 1926 to 1934 Burleigh Grimes played for eight different clubs (and Pittsburgh twice), even though, from 1927 to '30 - when he played for the Giants, Pirates, Braves, and Cardinals - his record was 77-40. Nap Lajoie played for three clubs from 1900 to 1902, but that was a special case. Rogers Hornsby played for a different club each year from 1926 to 1929 and won the NL batting title in 1928. Rabbit Maranville played for a different club each year from 1924 to 1927, although he didn't win any batting titles.

Dave Kingman played on 4 teams in one season (1977 - one team in each division) and hit 26 homers

Jose Bautista changed teams 5 times in seven months between the December 2003 rule 5 draft and the 2004 trade deadline.

Drafted by Baltimore from Pittsburgh in the rule 5 draft.
Claimed on waivers by Tampa Bay from Baltimore.
Traded to Kansas City from Tampa Bay for cash.
Traded to NY Mets from Kansas City.
Traded to Pittsburgh from NY Mets.

Not for ALL of them, but before he broke out he was basically known as "the guy who gets traded a lot"...

rate of occurence is a key... i know for some league setups it is actually a real problem based on other forum posts. if you have a 'ton' of players requesting huge contracts that all take months to drop in price, you may be experiencing somethign similar.

i don't see this too much in my setup. only a few players have exorbitant initial demands, and they are being signed well before budgets dry up.

oh! that's the other sign.... if they are playing for very cheap 1 year contracts, otherwise, i'd just chalk it up to being normal that some great players invariably move around alot. you'd have to compare real-life rates of such events to how often it's happening in the game.. and not just how much it happened in 1 or 2 crazy years but over many years. examples are great to express ideas, but they are not proof by themselves (anecdotal logical fallacy)
