Tie-breaker Question

I have a 4 division league with each division winner making the playoffs. The division winner with the best record plays the division winner with the worst record in the first round.

The division winner with the second best record and the division winner with the third best record ended up tied at the end of the regular season (Pittsburgh and Seattle). They played six games against each other in the regular season with each winning three. In the six games Pittsburgh scored 20 runs while Seattle scored 22 runs. Seattle had the advantage in overall runs scored and run differential. Yet, Pittsburgh received home-field advantage in their playoff match. What criteria does OOTP use to decide home-field advantage in this situation?

In real life, in that seeding situation MLB would the clubs' intradivision record—whichever of the two clubs had a better winning percentage against the teams in its own division would be seeded higher. In the minor leagues, there's a variety of methods.

What OOTP does is anybody's guess; it doesn't appear to use intradivision record.

Amazingly, both teams went 32-22 within their division. What would the MLB do next to decide?

To break a two-team tie for seeding, these are the steps:

(1) Better winning percentage in head-to-head games
(2) Better winning percentage in intradivision games
(3) Better winning percentage in intraleague games
(4) Better winning percentage in the last half of intraleague games
(5) Better winning percentage in the last half of intraleague games plus one

If still tied after step 5, then the process is continued, i.e. better winning percentage in the last half of intraleague games plus two, then better winning percentage in the last half of intraleague games plus three, etc.

It took step 4 to decide home field, and it was done correctly (Pittsburgh had the better record in the last 81 games). I don't know if this was the product of great programming or just pure coincidence, but the game got it right!
