Strange ball reaction

I just played a historical game, 1948 Indians at Yankees. A left hand hitter contacted the ball and the PbP said ground out 3U. The ball went deep into the right field stands then came flying out across the field and went deep into the left field stands. The first base man then ran across the field and wnt some where into the left field stands. After a slight pause he came out with the ball and ran to first base. I was playing in the 3D mode.
