"Restore from backup" not working

I will expand my league and haven't done that before ... so I wanted to restore from my backup and sim ahead to see how expansion works ...

... and I couldn't restore from ANY previous backups.

This is how it looks - and in the end I received an empty folder. This could end up as a serious problem because it could end up ccrashing league no matter how many backups you have stored.

could you make a new backup-, into a zip file, and save your game at current point, or is the expansion already done and you want to go back. i quit using the game backup myself, and started saving my game each critical point (all star, am. draft .etc) with a zip. All i need to do is unzip it in the same folder as my current game, giving it a similar but unique name (such as Crazy Game A and change name to Crazy Game A1). then i can select the Crazy Game A1 with load game feature ....

all this is a mute point if you've already expanded the league and want to go back to a point before that. But if all the other restores have failed, i don't know enough how to get them to work and the only thing i can think of is a new save with a different method., such as the zipping current file, then doing your expand etc....

i am not implying in any way, you did something wrong - simply it's a way to double check to see if you possibly missed a step. Probably not, but it's the only other thing i can think of that MIGHT be of assistance.

hopefully some one with more knowledge or a better idea comes along soon. But maybe this will help. Sorry i couldn't be more specific help. Good luck.

No problem at this moment - my league file is fine (knock on wood) ... I just wanted to sim ahead to see how expansion will work in my league (how to add teams, expansion draft, etc.) ... so I restored from backup to find that out.

That's when I found out that the "in-game restore" didn't work anymore.

In the meantime I created a test league and simmed through expansion, so I have the infos I wanted - I just wanted to let everybody know that in-game restore probably won't work as desired.

Is a dash allowed in a league file name? I note that all my backups use underscore, which suggests dashes are not ok. Not on my OOTP computer so not 100% sure

No, it doesn't matter if I name the target league "WBL-2", "WBL_2", "WBL2" or "Test", I end up with an empty folder

It used to work no matter how I named the new league.

Okay guys, I feel pretty embarrassed and hereby I apply for the OOTP Biggest Fool of the Year-Award

When I transferred my latest backup from my hard drive to my external drive, I accidently did cut and paste instead of copy and paste.

So I ended up with an empty folder - and obviously, when you do a restore from an empty folder you get another empty folder.

Sorry for causing you all that brain work - and thanks for all the help you tried to provide !

not a problem .... i'm certain no-one has ever done any of that before ....

besides, the post serves as a platform for others in a similar situation to have some ideas how to get out of it. and really, we're all here to help one another when we can. Glad it's worked out. That's the important part.
