Buffalo vs. the National League
Holy-moley! I knew I had a good team this year, but I didn't expect my entire starting lineup, one backup player, 3 of my five starters (one of them is listed as a reliever) and 1 reliever to all make the all-star game this year. That's 13 all-stars. Whew...
But then, we lost to the National League.... (oh well) |

We were 62-27 (0.697) at the break. We went on to finish the season at 111-43 (0.721).
I think one reason for this is that I'm playing in the reserve clause era and most teams are rolling in cash. It's easy to afford an entire team of all-stars. I did have the highest payroll in the league at $180,740, but still finished the year with a surplus of $300,429. That's almost enough to buy another two teams worth of all-stars. I'm not sure what's going on with the financial dynamics, but something doesn't seem quite right. You would think that greedy owners would be slurping up all the extra cash or that teams would start getting into bidding wars over the top free agents and player salaries would escalate. But none of that seems to be happening,.. |
