Four Major Leagues, Major League Baseball's Manifest Destiny
This is something I've been working on in OOTP, a scenario where not only the Pacific Coast League gets accepted as a major league, but the Continental League is also, in what I like to dub the MLB's Manifest Destiny.
1952: The Pacific Coast League declares itself an open league, a grade right on the borderline between a major league and a Triple A league. Mid 50's: The Braves, Browns, and A's still move to their respective cities, and the Oakland Oaks of the PCL move to Vancouver and become the Mounties. 1958: The Dodgers and Giants still move, the San Francisco Seals and Hollywood Stars move to Phoenix and Salt Lake City respectively, while the Los Angeles Angels stand their ground, saving the PCL's chances as a major league. 1959: William Shea announces the creation of the Continental League, which will begin play in 1961. 1960: The Major Leagues begrudgingly accept the both leagues as major leagues. 1963: Both Leagues are officially Major Leagues, and begin playing Major League Teams, the PCL plays AL teams, and the CL plays NL teams. (I chose 1963 because this was the beginning of the modern Minor League Reallignment) Here is how the major leagues look in 1963. AL A's Indians Orioles Red Sox Senators Tigers White Sox Yankees PCL Los Angeles Angels Phoenix Seals Portland Beavers Sacramento Solons Salt Lake City Bees San Diego Padres Seattle Rainiers Vancouver Mounties NL Braves Cardinals Cubs Dodgers Giants Phillies Pirates Reds CL Atlanta Rebels Buffalo Bisons Denver Zephyrs Houston Colt .45s Minnesota Twins New York Mets Texas Rangers Toronto Maple Leafs More changes from the Mid 60's to Mid 70's: With the Astrodome opening, the Colt .45s still change their name to the Astros. The A's still move to Oakland, but the Braves are stuck in Milwaukee despite wanting to move elsewhere. The Sick Family sell the Seattle Rainiers to Pacific Northwest Sports, Inc, led by Dewey Soriano, and became the Seattle Pilots, however after years of financial failure, Soriano sold his team in the mid 70's to another group, and the franchise was renamed the Seattle Mariners. Labatt Breweries bought the Toronto Maple Leafs in the mid 70's also, and to avoid confusion from the Hockey team, the company held a contest to determine what should be their new team name, and the Blue Jays were chosen. In 1977, the AL and NL added two new franchises, the Kansas City Royals and Montreal Expos. Plus, each league split into East and West divisions, with the exception being the PCL, splitting into North and South. And in 1993 the NL expanded and added the Florida Marlins, while the CL added the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to the league. So here is how the MLB would look in 1993 AL East Orioles Red Sox Indians Senators Yankees AL West A's Royals Tigers White Sox PCL North Beavers Bees (Shortened to Salt Lake Bees) Mariners Mounties PCL South Angels Padres Seals (renamed Arizona Diamondbacks in late 90s) Solons NL East Cubs Cardinals Expos Marlins Phillies NL West Braves Dodgers Giants Pirates Reds CL East Blue Jays Bisons Devil Rays Mets Rebels CL West Astros Rangers Twins Zephyrs (renamed Colorado Rockies not long later) Let me know what you guys think! |

Interesting... Do you use an association for interleague playoffs or something?
