Online leagues. Only sim or can you manage a game?

In the OOTP18 online leagues, are you able to actually manage a game vs. someone else in real time? Or are the online leagues only for simulation games?

I haven't bought the game yet. I'm hoping to find a game where I can manage a team against a friend online.

Just to clarify, I'm not looking to "play" as the players. Just looking to manage the game as if I'm the coach. Like the good old days of Earl Weaver Baseball. But online against friends.

I'd love to do that too. You don't have the option to "play" as the players in any mode in this game btw. I've never played in an online league but I'm pretty sure it's sim only. Being able to manage a game against other real players has been talked about on here. Hopefully it becomes a reality in a future version.

yep, they are sim only & that's the reason I got bored with one fast. simming a week at a time didn't really immerse me.

playing with other people was great though. I would also love a way to manage against other managers.
