why is game making pitcher a starter with 50/250 stamina?

This is driving me nuts, he was a reliever for years and then they decided to make him a starter with a 50 stamina rating??? and he is pitching deep into games. I don't get it.

I even changed his stamina to a 10 and it still had him starting. There is no way to make him a reliever since I am not managing that team but the game AI should not be putting him as a starter, and role suggestion stays as "starter" no matter what I do to change it.

this screen shot shows closer as his role because I just manually did that, but the second I sim 1 day he goes back to being a starter

Yeah, I'm flummoxed. My first thought was that he throws 3 pitches for strikes but on further notice, a. he really doesn't throw them all that well (only the sinker is a major league quality pitch) and there's no change of pace in there, just a two seam fastball, a four seamer, and a slider. They aren't even necessarily low platoon split pitches.

Maybe your rotation is so bad that your manager sees him as a better option than any of your actual starters? That could be, although I'm having a hard time seeing him as a guy who will do well the third time through the order (in case you don't know, one thing that the game models is that every time a team faces a pitcher in a game, he's a little easier to hit. This effect is negated a lot by a pitcher who throws a variety of pitches). He does have amazing control and given that Movement rating and the fact that his #1 pitch is a sinker, he probably never gives up a home run, so in spite of the mediocre stuff I could easily see him being a Bob Tewksbury or Jamie Moyer type, an extreme pitch to contact guy who can give you 6 strong innings a night even though he probably starts getting visibly tired at 90 pitches just because he never takes anyone that deep into the count.
