Runners thrown out at home
First off, OOTP Baseball is fantastic. I've played for years but this expansion is incredible.
I am having a very large number of my runners thrown out at home. It's to the point that if I'm given the option to send the runner or not, I seldom do. Even on deep fly out against an average or weak arm I'm having fast runners thrown out at home. Flipping the field I'm seldom able to throw runners out. Anyone else experiencing this? |

I've noticed the same thing. For now, I just let my AI manager make the calls at this point. Couple of 2 out occasions, my slow base runner was sent from 2nd to home on a very deep double into the left field corner. Both times thrown out... Figured my guy was running on contact and this would help my cause... Oops!

when gives that option, it means it's "close" .. could be on either side of the outcome, so that we can't easily guess..
definitely consider arm strength of the OF in question. over longer-term you'll probably see it's not so automatic of an out. don't run on guys with strong arms unless desperate... even then probably not a good idea. ... i mean if the pitcher is coming up and 2 outs... context can make it a 'better' idea too. |

In both cases a small sample size.

I've played out about 40 games, not experiencing anything unusual, I always take the runner's speed , the number of outs and and the outfielders arm rating into account when the game gives me the option to try to score.

Yeah, it's got to the point where i never send them. Fast runner, deep ball, bad arm and they still get thrown out, so why take the automatic out?
I wonder if those descriptions even mean anything in the outcome?I've seen too many fast runners thrown out and ended innings, that i just stopped. I appreciate the choice, but i never seem to score on any of those.

I play out all of my games in 3D and I am in late August.
I have not seen anything unusual. When I evaluate "going home", I first consider the distance (first by visual, as I use 3D, and I seem to be able to judge this "in real time" by actually looking at the field/distance, but I also look at the text), then the speed of the base-runner (I have a couple speedsters) and the arm of the OF. Of course, I also consider the game situation. I have had a few guys thrown out, but most of the time, I seem to be able to make the right call based on the above. |

The AI seems to get it right most of the time, but some of the running decisions don't make a lot of sense.
I just had a spring training game where the pitcher got a bloop single to center and decided to try to stretch it into a double. In a lopsided game. What? I do find that the close plays usually go the way I expect, most of the time. |

Oddly in my 18 season I've just started having success after previously stopping everyone at the "ball is shallow" alert. As RchW said probably sample size/quality of runners and opponents.
