AI automatically replaces injured player

I have currently started a season in manager mode and my starting shortstop got injured and is on the DL for 3 weeks.
The following game, the AI automatically inserted the back up shortstop into the lineup to begin the game.
At the start of every game, I have to remove them so I can move my second baseman over to shortstop and put my back up second baseman in the line up.
I have the settings checked where I, as manager, control all line ups (except minors). Is this a normal thing because I do not remember this happening in any of the older versions I have had (OOTP12 - OOTP18).

Is it possible your backup is set to start every X games? That's how this usually happens.

Since I am in manager mode, I have my depth charts empty.

Do you have any lineups premade? If not, then it's probably just looking for anyone labeled as a SS to put in place. You could temporarily change your 2B to SS and maybe that will alleviate your issue assuming your new SS would be preferred over the one you don't want in the lineup?
