Ratings Scale questions

What ratings scales do people use? Either in PT or the regular game...I've always just used 1 to 100, figuring the more chances to show variation, the better. Is there a general scale people veer toward? What would be the advantages of switching to "20-80" or "1-20" etc.?

I use 1-100 in every mode of the game.

It makes the most sense to me.

That's what I've always used too. I was just listening to OOTP Now, and they talked about the "20-80 scale" in there. Wasn't sure what the purpose really was.

The 20-80 scale is what scouts use in real life, so it doesn't hurt to be accustomed to it. That's about the only reason I can think of.

Never got why it's 1-100, seems very weird rating scale for a baseball game. As chazzycat said above 20-80 is what's used irl, so of course I'm using that.

What on earth is the history behind using that? Why didn't the first GM tell the first scout to use that to change it to something that makes sense...

I use 1-100 in PT, 20-80 in normal OOTP, but may switch over to 1-100 soon. Always used to like playing on 20-80, but now that I've begun using 1-100 in PT, the 20-80 system starts to feel a bit foreign.

good read for those that aren't familiar with the 20-80 scale: http://blogs.fangraphs.com/scouting-...couting-scale/

It's about standard deviations in statistics. Three standard deviations captures 99.7% of data, so they didn't bother going 4. Basically they started at 50, and used increments of 10 for each standard deviation. That's how we ended up with 20-80. It actually does make sense.

Souce: fangraphs article from above comment

So the scales you're able to set to 1-100 but the ratings cannot... max 20-80?

I use 20-80 because that is what the major leagues uses. I spend so much of my time on perfect team that I don't play offline any more at all.

I use 20/80 in regular sims because scouts aren't accurate enough to give you the difference between a 57 power and a 56 power, its false precision

in perfect team I use 1-100 since the ratings are exact

True....I've seen pitchers STUFF get up to 128 but nothing else. Maybe a very athletic positional player's fielding rating can as well but I think 118 is the max I've seen there.

I use 20-80 on my White Sox Challenge Mode dynasty since I am scouting minor league players for trades, promotion/demotion and the players in the amateur draft a lot of the time. PT I use 1-100.
