Start on 1st July, draft lists out of sync

Haven't reported this earlier, but it has always been there: if you start a historical game on July 1st, to set the rules, your draft list, available for trade, is a few years behind the current date. For example, I set a NHL-WHA merger league of 1977 (as negotiated by the time), and instead of draft rounds of 1978 and beyond available for trade, you got rounds of 1975-77 available. The AI accepts those picks for trade, but that would be kind of cheating.

Oh, and there are way too many long term injuries for players that are not injury prone (that's why I play with commissioner mode, and have to reset injuries at least once per month). I think it needs tweaking.

I'm not getting that, I start on July 1 1977 and I have the 78-80 picks available for trade. What were the other starting settings you used?

I'll check the settings in a minute. This has happened before with other July 1 starts, but I seem to recall that not with the first try of this merger league (where my too lax rules on expansion dratf kind of ruined it).

Damn, wasn't able to reproduce it either now. So it is not a consistent bug. I can say with certainty that it has happened twice for me. I may have to abandon the latest game because of this. I'll check if replacing draft.dat would solve it.

In any case, I'll let you know when I encounter it again (hopefully never!).

It sort of kind of did! 77-79 available now so only one redundant year. Perhaps if I setup a similar game of 78, and use its draft.dat, it will absolutely correct. Have to try it.

For the record, it didn't work out, but the draft list corrects itself when the next season starts.

The rate of injuries several months long for players that are not injury prone remains a problem.

Random anecdote. In the 2019-2020 continuation save, I started with the Hurricanes and a player was already injured with shoulder soreness. I happened to look after a week or so of him being injured, and he had 928 days on his injury. Over two and a half years...for shoulder soreness haha.

Unrelated, using player values changing once per year, Tony Esposito retires in 1979, which obviously isn't right (if historical length of careers should be guaranteed with the setting).

Also unrelated, it appears that if you have league evolution turned off, there's no way to lower the draft age in future years.

Can you upload the save you saw Esposito retire and the injuries to low injury-proneness players in? I'm not seeing either when I test them.

Right now, turning league evolution off freezes all the rules in place. We're working on making that more flexible for next year.

The Esposito thing is strange, I don't see anyone else that retired prematurely, even if I run it several seasons forward, so it seems to be retiring everyone else as expected. I'm wondering if he got hit with a rare storyline, there are a couple of those that can retire older players and he's in the right age range for them.

Which non-injury prone players are you seeing long-term injuries on? I checked several I know have low injury proneness (Garry Unger, Billy Harris, Craig Ramsay, Nick Libett, etc.) and I don't see any injuries longer than 2-3 weeks and about 2/3 of their seasons have no games missed.

Is this the right time and place to say that I don't care about the storylines at all? I wish they could be turned off.

Anyway, I slightly misspoke. When I said player that are not injury prone, I meant players that are not heavily injury prone (like Orr) but usually have average injury values (ca. 8-11). Those are the players that take the brunt of injuries over half a season long. Something's not right there.

And they keep coming:

No point in playing without the commissioner mode.

Effin hell, now there's a long term injury happening every time I press "continue", for similar type of players (average proneness). There's defo a problem.

Upload the file again, please - I'd like to compare it to the one I ran forward a few years to see why you're getting so many injuries.

Done, it's called "Winnipeg77.lg". Do note that for long term injuries I have either used "reset all injuries" or edited the player separately.
