is there any way to improve drafts

the drafts in 21 seem overloaded with lo talent. i spend a lot of time changing the ratings on players 1 by 1. is there any way to get higher quality players w/o changing ratings 1 by 1

You can change the Player Creation Modifiers

"Most players of OOTP should never need to adjust these numbers. By default, OOTP generates realistic players in every era."

I've not run a ton of drafts, but I've yet to see any prospects with a potential rating higher than in the 50s. Not very realistic at all - or is OOTP trying to tell us the future of the game is going to be bland, mediocre players?

There is nothing wrong with ootp drafts. Most good rated talent is gone before you even hit pick 10. This isn't the nfl. The rest might be decent starters or surprise you years later which is why you should focus on high work ethic.

what i want is the ability to easily improve the quality of the draft. i don't feel that ootp has to put out drafts with every player a potential hof candidate- i just want the ability in my solo league to easily improve draft quality. as it stands now i spend a great deal of time each year to manually improve player ratings.

here is what i see in my solo league. i use a 1-10 rating. in ootp it seems that the avg batter has a 5 rating. in my mind i learned in kindergarten that 7 which equals 70% should be the "C" or average player.

so what i want is to be able to determine prior to the draft class is the ability to use 7 in a 1-10 and simply click it and avg batters will be 7 with ratings adjusted

Oh wow...
...
...I guess every batter in major league baseball history deserves an F because even the best only get hits like 30 to 40 percent of the time.

If it helps, you can change the scale with which you are looking at them. Look at them with the rookie rating scale and they'll all be 10's.

Ok, snark aside

What you want, is what you said. You want to be able to change the scale the players are rated on. Changing the quality of the players in the draft isn't going to help you.

You are aware, though, that if the average players is a 7, then there's going to be less room for above average players?
Players that are 5's will become 7's
Players that are 6's will become 8's
Players that are 7's will become 9's
Players that are 8's will become 10's
Players that are 9's will...

Or there will be less differentiation between good players
5's will become 7's
6's will become 7's
7's will become 8's
8's will stay 8's
9's will stay 9's
and 10's will stay 10's

if u have ever been in an online league with a 1-10 rating scale u will find that 7 contact is an average batter. when u check the league batting leaders in b avg they are all 8-10 contact batters. in my 1-10 contact online league a 6 contact will almost never be an average hitter or even a ml player.

i just think that 5 in con is not avg and 7 is.. i am saying this

9-10 = a
8 =b
7 =c
6 =d
5and below are f players

i think ootp is working on the premise that 5 is avg. thats ok but i would like to have an easy way to change the level of the avg player to a 7

in threads like this I think that there is often a failure to recognize the rate at which the baseball draft produces "average" major league players

look at the 2010 1st round

9 of 30 have not reached the majors, 5 more have played fewer than 10 games in the bigs, 7 have accumulated 10 WAR to this point...

My current draft pool's highest rated defensive player (on 1 1-100 scale) is rated at a 68.

That never, ever happens in RL. The draft pools are too weak.

Not sure if this is just happening to me, but the college pitchers in draft classes past 2022 have been unrealistically good. There have been multiple 5 star overall (not potential) college pitchers in both 2023 and 2024 classes for me, and several 2.5+ star pitchers as well. As fun as it is to automatically get an ace if you have a top 5 pick, feel like this should be changed.
