Being a GM

I'm wondering if I'm missing the picture playing the game as general manager because i'm getting a little bored so im drafting, trading, replacing players that are hurt but lot of the time all i do is let the team play ans that could go on for a month and it seems like nothing happens...i will go and lose 6 games straight and i go look at the team and try to figure out why but i never come up with a solution, but am i missing the big picture, i guess what im wondering is there something i could be doing in the game to make it more fun?

Largely because of random numbers
There's about an 85% chance of flipping 6 consecutive tails in 162 coin flips. So, a .500 team would be expected to lose 6 consecutive games in a season 85 out of 100 seasons (No, not exact because of varying talent levels)

That's totally up to each individual

Some people play out more games to feel more immersed.
Some people step back just to watch how things unfold.
Some people create intricate universes
Some people write about their games in the dynasty forum
Some people try unique strategies to see how they work

I do GM mode as well and some other things I do:

-I try to keep fresh arms in my bullpen. You said a month can go by with not much to do, so I'm guessing you aren't doing this. I sim one day at a time and check my pitching staff after every game. I like to have a long-man and one middle reliever with minor league options to rotate out when my bullpen is tired.
-I check my scouts task list pretty regularly and look under the "recently scouted players" list. I look especially close at the independent league guys he's scouted that I'm able to purchase for $250k. I check this multiple times per month.
-I check every minor league team at least every 2 weeks to make sure they have a fully stocked roster, check on top prospects, get an idea on who may need promotion soon, check on guys learning new positions etc.
-I keep a close eye on splits vs L and R. While I may not make lineup adjustments weekly off of this, I like to be mindful of it because guys will sometimes develop bad splits during a season. Having an eye on this helps me think long-term about roster construction.
-I assign my scout to check on guys in my organization that have low scouting accuracy.
